When was your FIRST quilt sighting?

My mom, Maxie Makes, has been quilting and sewing for me my entire life, so I can’t even remember my first quilt sighting!

a stitch in time

Her creativity and quilt shop (A Stitch in Time) is definitely what inspired me to begin quilting a very long time ago, though. 🙂

When you go to a quilt show, what types of quilts are you drawn to?

I’m always drawn to the more modern quilt designs and have a special love for florals. I also find myself being drawn to either simple neutral colors or quilt that have bright pops of color.

(see her latest fabric line HERE)

Did you have a career prior to making art, and what was it?

I’ve always done several things, but being a fabric designer is definitely a favorite! I’m also the author behind going home to roost,

teach on surface pattern design, run the roost tribe and sell digital goods over in my etsy shop.

What is your favorite place to visit in your hometown?

I live in the beautiful mountains of Pisgah Forest, NC. My favorite place to go is anywhere outside. We’re known for our beautiful trails and hundreds of waterfalls, and any of them is considered a favorite place of mine!

What does your studio look like, and what would you change in it?

I have a loft studio with fabric and supplies are on display and the room is filled with natural sunlight. If I could change anything about it I would only make it BIGGER! 🙂

Do you have a GREAT storage, organization, or label making tip?

I keep my fabric rolls in children’s toy barrels from the container store. They work perfectly!

What are your 3 favorite colors of Aurifil thread?

Top three would have to be 2805, 2134 and 5011.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I’m so excited about my upcoming fabric line, Forest Floor (coming in January 2016). It’s really personal to me and I’ve loved working on it. It’s also what I’ve used for the mini quilt below!

I’m also really passionate about teaching, and you can find out more about all my classes on surface pattern design and portfolio design here.

What about your Month Inspired your Quilt Block?

We live in the Blue Ridge Mountains and this time of year is so beautiful here. The leaves are changing and the views are breathtaking. The forest where we live is what inspired both my upcoming fabric line (Forest Floor) and this mini quilt. I hope you enjoy it!

  1. I *adore* this quilt you’ve shared with us — it made me catch my breath when I saw it. It’s the favorite that’s been shared all year — I’ll definitely be making this one! Thank you!! 🙂

  2. I’m more a cross stitcher as a quilter…*Ü*… In my new project “randje per week” I use two colours of aurifill to work with. It’s Aurifill Mako 28/2 in the colours 2260 en 2725. Just love to work with them. The have a lovely shine and the yarn is very strong. It made it possible to weave in threads at the border of the fabric.

You can find pictures of this project here http://anneleindesign.blogspot.nl/2015/11/even-bijpraten.html

    Nice greetings,
