LunaSol-Promo

Aurifil is pleased to introduce brand new Aurifil Thread Collection Designer, Felice Regina of Sew Scatterbrained. Felice is an illustrator and designer living in Houston, TX. Her first collection for Windham Fabrics is inspired by her “spirit animal”, the mystical moon bunny. A vivid color spectrum recalls burning sunrises and calming sunsets. Geometric moon phases, ditzy florals, and sweet bunny faces bring balance to this whimsical collection. The coordinating Aurifil thread boxes are a perfect representation of the collection’s the fabulously rich and bold colors.

THE INTERVIEW
What first inspired you to start sewing?
I’ve always had a strong internal motivation to make things. When I was in elementary school, I taught myself how to sew by hand using a book I bought with my allowance. I didn’t use a sewing machine until I was a junior in college. I had just gotten my first apartment and wanted to make some inexpensive curtains and pillows to decorate with.

What is your most beloved project finish and why?
My favorites are constantly changing, but right now, I’m in awe of of my Satellite Medallion quilt. It took a lot of energy to get it made in time for the Luna Sol look book. I don’t think I’ve ever put so much effort into the quilting process! When it was done, I knew it had to be on the cover of the look book.

When did you first start working as an illustrator?
I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil.

How did you first connect with Windham Fabrics and what have you most loved about working through the collection design process?
I met my fabric design idol, Heather Ross, at Quilt Con 2015 and she introduced me to the Windham family! I can’t even describe how wonderful they are to work with. I really enjoy the dialogue we have regarding putting the collection together. They’ve helped spark positive ideas and changes that I wouldn’t have come up with on my own.

What do you love most about Aurifil threads?
The color selection. I love pulling out my Aurifil color card and being able to find the perfect shade for my project. I’ve never been let down!

Do you have any advice for new designers out there?
Don’t let yourself be intimidated. Never limit yourself. Embrace failure.

Felice Regina is a 20-something illustrator/designer/maker from Houston, Texas. Since she was a child, her creative spirit and relentlessly curious nature has driven her to pursue making in many forms. Illustration and sewing happen to be her favorites.

As an adult who still sleeps with her baby blanket, Felice thinks she was primed to be a quilt fanatic. She made her first quilt in January 2014, and she now has more than she can count. She loves the marriage of artwork, function, and snugglability a quilt represents.

Felice graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Art and a minor in Business Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio in 2013. With her illustrated series “The Exiled Realm”, she won both the Trinity University 2013 senior award for Excellence in Art and the Ai Wei Wei Award at Trinity Art Collective’s 2012 Media Madness show. The series was also exhibited at Trinity’s Neidorff Gallery. Her photography was published in the 2010 Trinity Review. Her digital illustration “Closed for Cleaning” was featured in the MMORPG TERA Online from June to August 2013 as a winner of the “Loading Memories” contest.
