Dressmaking Essentials with Jenni Smith: Why Cotton?

We are so thrilled to have Jenni Smith as a guest on Auribuzz for a wonderful Dressmaking Essentials series inspired by her debut Aurifil thread collection. Last week, we introduced her collection, learned a bit more about her inspiration, got to check out a solid lineup of some of her favorite makes, and gave you the chance to win a collection of your own. If you missed it, head here.

Jenni has been using Aurifil threads in her studio for the last 6 years and feels very strongly about working with our 100% Cotton threads for her garment sewing.

Today’s featured video answers the question — Why Cotton?

Jenni says: I can’t imagine sewing a silk or lawn cotton blouse now with a polyester thread – it just doesn’t feel right.  I had the same experience when I started quilting with Aurifil – just as it seems to lay so flat on patchwork seams, it creates crisp lines on garments and that is very satisfying!

Thanks so much for Jenni! We absolutely love her little nuggets of knowledge. Don’t forget to follow her at @jennismithsews on Instagram to check out her #toptiptuesday videos for even more great ideas and inspiration.

For now — we’d love to know… what types of clothing to you most like to make? Do you have a favorite fabric/thread combo?
