Sew in Love

Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts is one of our all-time favorites. <3 She has been an Aurifil Designer for years and has been sharing her love of our thread with fans, students, and peers for as long as we can remember. Edyta has impeccable taste and her designs are beloved worldwide. We love working with her on collections, both because she always selects a stunning range of colors and because she does so much with her threads that each box functions like a full on thread education.

Her latest collection features a lineup of reds, pinks, and Edyta’s go-to neutrals, absolutely perfect for Valentine’s Day. The colors coordinate with her Little Sweethearts fabric collection (Andover) and were selected specifically to be used in making the quilts in her book, Sew in Love.

To make things even more fabulous, Edyta partnered with Fat Quarter Shop for a wonderful Block of the Month YouTube series, to give us tips, support, and encouragement along the way! It is the best kind of sew along, led by the designer herself. <3

EDYTA on SEW IN LOVE
What brings you the most joy in sharing your patterns with the world?
Seeing my students completing beautiful quilts and dreaming of new quilting projects.

How did you go about selecting threads for complementary collection?
I wanted to have threads that give a delicate accent to my appliqué silhouettes, that’s why I choose a 50wt thread to stitch around the applique in my quilts.

Do you have a favorite block from the book?
My favorite block is the flower “He loves me, He loves me not” block – I just love making this block with our templates.

ABOUT EDYTA
Website — BlogFacebookInstagramYouTubeShop

Edyta’s love for fabric began at a very young age- when she used her mother’s drapes to create her first fabric project! Fortunately, for all of us, Edyta’s mother recognized her passion and thus began her journey with fabric and sewing. One of Edyta’s biggest blessings is her marriage to husband, Michael. She not only fell in love- she was introduced to a Sitar family tradition of quilting by her mother-in-law, Carol, and grandmother-in-law, Anna.

Quilting has enabled Edyta to express herself about the objects or occasions of her surroundings – her designs are her avenue to release passion! “My children and my husband are my greatest motivation. This is the Cinderella dream for me. Being able to do what I love and share this love with others is the greatest feeling and reward I could imagine!”

The combination of inspiration, a love for fabric, a keen eye for color, and her family teachings blended into the recipe for a talent in constructing amazing quilts, creating innovative quilting patterns for Laundry Basket Quilts, designing beautiful Traditional and Batik fabrics for MODA and stunning threads for Aurifil. She has published 5 books to date, been featured in magazines world-wide, and her quilts have been honored by receiving many awards.

As the founder and owner of her company, Laundry Basket Quilts, Edyta is proud to carry on her family tradition that fabrics and threads have seamlessly stitched together through the generations. Her true passion and quilter’s spirit shine through her classes, workshops, and presentations. She travels all over the world sharing her experiences and connecting with quilters of all levels through the inspiring stories about the quilts she makes.

  9. My guild, Ladies of the Lakes Quilt Guild in Wolfboro, NH makes heart quilts for our members in need of a big group hug. I think that’s the best way to celebrate Valentines Day, sharing love with your friends,

  10. Had a class with you several years ago! Sew much fun! I have several of your books but not this one yet, Aurifil is the best. It’s what I have in my thread drawer!

  11. It varies with the year whether I sew for my Valentines. Sometimes I make mug rugs, sometimes table runners, other times there are pin cushions, but some sad years there is no Valentine sewing at all. We have a puppy this year and I can’t get near the sewing machine unless he is sleepy on my lap, so this is likely a no-sewn-Valentine year. Good thing he is cute!

  12. I love using your thread for machine quilting especially and Edita’s color choices are gorgeous! I adore her tulip quilt. Absolutely charming!

  13. I haven’t sewn many Valentines Day projects, but I have one on my list – a crazy quilt pillow with lots of hand embroidery stitches.
