Today we are thrilled to share the first monthly showcase with members of our 2021-2022 Aurifil Artisan team! During the month of June we sent the team their yearly Artisan Thread Collection, and we are so inspired by what they have made so far! 😍 We know that this year is going to be full of gorgeous Artisan inspiration.

Ama of The Vibrant Pixel – “When I first saw this fabric I knew it would be perfect for me to make a summer dress! Imagine my surprise when the perfect thread arrived in my Artisan package; I used Aurifil 40 WT in (1231) for this dress.”
Pam Holland – “Goodness me, here we again, and I hope to be more proactive this season. I had finished a few small projects earlier this month, and then I was surprised by urgent surgery on my dominant hand, which will now be in plaster for the next month or so. Before surgery, my package arrived from Italy, so I immediately created a new project. This is an Angel that will go into a BOM. She is from my imagination, appliqued, illustrated and quilted. I call it Drapplique, drawing and applique. First of all, I created her image and traced it onto white fabric using a .5 black pigment ink pen. The first version is drawn on the fabric. I coloured it with Pigment ink.
However, I needed to create the pieces for the applique and place them on a background fabric for the applique. For instance, some of the pieces, her legs and shoes, the hem of her dress and her waistband, are drawn on white fabric, creating my own fabric design. The details are enhanced by illustrating on the prepared fabric with pigment ink. Giving it an illustrative effect. I stitched her down with a small zig-zag stitch, 1.3 width X 1.3 length. Then over stitched the entire illustration with 60 weight black thread. (free motion). Next came the background quilting. I drew a rough idea on fabric and actually free motioned it without marking on the quilt. I used the Turquoise 28 weight thread. I wanted it to be a feature, enhancing the image rather than a filler. I felt I needed a quilting sample, so others can use it as a pattern, and that was done in 50 weight black on the hand-dyed background. So my June sample is complete.”
Mary Davis of @marygoroundquilts – “My first zipper pouch. This is the Little Glam Bag that I got as a kit. I was drawn to the bright fabrics and cute design. Pattern by Pink Sands Design was a quick and easy make.”
Alison Holt – “A free motion embroidery inspired by my garden and the welcome box of threads from Aurifil. Finally I used variegated thread in my work, each thread has a beautiful range of colour and tone. I loved the way they worked in my embroidery.”
Garrett of @coffeestitcher – “Quirky Quaker Mythical Creatures: Unicorn” by Darling and Whimsy. One of four cryptids, I used 28wt 2430 from the welcome kit for the pink. I used a double strand as recommended.
Jamie of @gummywormbelly – “When your pregnant sister says “hey can you make some more of those shorts” because her first baby wore the hell out the first ones you made and the second baby definitely needs some you say yes. So I present you with some more of those shorts sewn up with (my favorite) Aurifil 50wt thread and some large fabric remnants.”
Henrik Müller – “For the Aurifil Artisan Challenge for june I made a quilt label using 50 wt and 40 wt thread from the welcome package I was kindly provided. It was a fun challenge to work with a limited colour palette (I usually play with all 270 colours)”
Madeline Bonner – “This project combines a variety of techniques including appliqué using Mylar templates and needle turn appliqué. I enjoyed using three weights of thread including 80, 50 and 12. I loved adding lots of texture and colour with the 12 weight thread. The fabrics are from Sally Kelly’s new Paradiso collection.”
Jen Belnap of @thesmittenchicken – “This dog-gone June Aurifil Artisan challenge was sew much fun! I made this FPP dog for a very special teacher for an end of year gift. Her dog became the class ‘mascot’. We are so grateful for amazing teachers!”
