Today we are thrilled to share the next monthly showcase from members of our 2021-2022 Aurifil Artisan team! During the month of July we asked the team to make a project that features our 40wt thread. š

Henrik MĆ¼ller – “I turned the “See Me Rollin Block” I designed into an awesome project bag. I had the blocke finished beforehand and it was just chilling on my sewing room closet door attached with some blue tack waiting to be used. I never got around to put it into anything. This was the opportunity I have been waiting for. So I grabbed my box of 40 wt thread and auditioned some threads. The 40 wt is a little thicker than the 50 wt I use for piecing but not too thick that it looks embroidered. It is perfect to give the quilting a little extra oomph. I opted for matchstick quilting in the background to make the Tula Pink rotary cutter really pop. In the cutter I just stitched in the ditch on the dark grey parts and left the rest unquilted.”
Sherry Shish – “Making a Luz Marina by Oro Rosa Patterns with 40wt thread. The thread is stronger than normal quilting thread and stitches through faux leather beautifully!”
Mary Davis of @marygoroundquilts – “My FMQ ice dyed mandala panel is complete. I was a bit nervous starting this project and I did have to rip out the center design and re-do it. After that, smooth-ish sailing. The hardest part was deciding what designs to fill.
I took the Master That Mandala course byĀ @boldnotionquilting. And so happy I did. I used curved, circle and oval rulersāfor the first time. And you know what, it was not that hard. It was actually fun. The panel measures about 22 inches.”
Kathy Ross – “40 wt thread is fast becoming my thread weight of choice for free motion embroidery. because its so strong and yet so delicate it allows me to create greater accuracy and detailed work when creating my wildlife portraits.”
Alison Holt – “A Cornish inspired seascape worked in 40wt cotton thread. A combination of freemotion embroidery on painted silk.”
Susan de Vanny – “Born to be Wild is done all but the quilting. I went wild using my Aurifil threads on these puppies. Thread sketched Wild Dog Puppies from one of my many photos I took in Africa 2019.”
