AURIFIL ARTISAN SHOWCASE | December

Today we are thrilled to share the final showcase of 2021 from members of our 2021-2022 Aurifil Artisan team. Throughout December we let the team have open freedom to create whatever they wanted. The holidays are already a busy time of year so we are thrilled to see the amount of projects submitted! 😍

Erin Kroeker @theblanketstatement – “I have grown to love monochromatic quilts and they interesting ways they show off a quilt pattern. And this Home Street quilt is no different (my latest pattern!) I pieced with 50wt thread in 2021 which is my most used thread by far! Then I decided to hand quilt around each of the shapes to help define the pattern using 28wt thread in 2311. (which is VERY quickly becoming me new favourite!)”

Audrey Esarey @cottonandbourbon – “Thread can significantly change the appearance of the fabric below. Here I’ve used Aurifil 40wt thread for straight line quilting in four colors at 1/8th inch spacing to shift the color of the fabric beneath!”

Amanda Carye @broadclothstudio – “I’ve been taking some time before the end of the year to wrap up some projects (a little bit of end-of-year cleaning!). Decided to try my hand at using my machine’s zigzag stitch to quilt this improv quilt while putting with my collection of green Cotton 50wt threads to good use: I used 2843 for the quilt front, 2850 for the quilt back, and 4129 for the binding (plus my go to 2600 for the piecing).”

Amari Thomsen @nextgenquilting – “Currently trying my hand at “quilt-as-you-go” to make a large, queen-sized, scrappy quilt! I’m using 50wt thread for both the piecing and the straight-line quilting!”

Lucy Brennan @charmaboutyou – “It’s not often I complete something in a year, but this stitch-a-long from Modern Folk Embroidery has been a joy to stitch in 2021! The pattern is The Fruits of Plenty, stitched with Aurifloss on 32 count linen. And just like that… 34613 crosses later, the project is complete.”

Sherry Shish @poweredbyquilting – “The winter time always gets me to slow down and do some hand stitching! Embroidery kits with Aurifloss are just the ticket for cozy stitching.”

Elise Baek @elisebaek – “The final block of the first annual EPP Advent Calendar! Pieced with Aurifil 50wt white no. 2021 and 2024. It’s been a wonderful 24 days of fun and sewing, seeing all the fabulous blocks by all the participants! If you’d like to see the blocks, check out the hashtag #eppadvent !”

Paula Steel @paulasteel.quilts – “Some fabulously fun Christmas cushions. Using the Peppermint Please panel and lots of 50wt matching Aurifil thread.”

Alison Holt @alisonlholt – “Working on this aerial view. Finding the variegated threads invaluable to give me subtle tones in the rocks. It’s 5x 9inches. Silk painted base with silk dyes, all stitching is freehand machine embroidery with Aurifil cotton 50 and 40 weight.”

Heather Black @quiltachusetts – “Christmas Stockings with Aurifil 12 wt”

Shannon Fraser @shannonfraserdesigns – “The holidays are here and that means entertaining season is in full swing! Bring a touch of handmade to your table setting with the Modern Aztec quilted table runner! Super quick to stitch and makes a stunning statement.”

Mary Davis @marygoroundquilts – “Want a quick project for the holidays? Make this Joy placemat. This is a festive addition to your holiday decor.”

Garrett Kilgore @coffeestitcher – ““The Wizard of Oz” by Satsuma Street. Uses a mix of Aurifloss, 12wt and then fancy metallic and specialty fibers. The border was worked with two strands of DMC. I wanted to show how seamlessly you could use the various weights of Aurifil alongside DMC. You can see how much more vibrant the Aurifil is by comparison and it’s so much nicer to work with.”

Amy Ball @coffeeringsstudio – “Cross stitch is such a lovely craft for winter evenings, curled up on the sofa. For me, the combination of hand sewing and the guidance of the cross stitch fabric is perfect for an easy, low concentration make which is great for a busy time of year like this. This Scandic-style design is great for a decoration that lasts beyond Christmas. I love using Aurifil 12wt for cross stitch projects because the colour selection is amazing and I find spools of thread much easier to work with than skeins which are more traditional for embroidery thread.”

Steph Skardal @stephskardal – “I participated in the “Modern Meets Modern” mini quilt challenge for the International Quilt Museum, producing this piece. I leveraged 50wt thread for applique and 40wt thread for quilting.”

Here’s to all the projects created in 2021, and to a quilty & stitchy 2022 and beyond.
