June Aurifil Artisan Showcase

Welcome to a vibrant new year with our amazing Aurifil Artisans! Each year, we have the privilege of collaborating with incredibly talented artists who not only celebrate the joy of working with Aurifil Threads but also share their exceptional creations with the world. Today, we’re buzzing with excitement to unveil the first project showcase from our dynamic 2024-2025 Artisan team!

This June, we challenged our artisans to create stunning projects using treasures from their Aurifil Artisan Welcome Pack or Aurifil Threads they had on hand, or simply to share their Welcome Pack and excitement for the upcoming term. The results are in, and we can already see that this year’s projects will be a source of endless inspiration, month after month. Prepare to be dazzled by their unparalleled creativity and craftsmanship!

A massive shoutout to all our June participants! We’re incredibly grateful for your creativity and enthusiasm in joining us on this journey. You truly make it extraordinary!

The only thing I love more than a box of chocolates is… a box of sewing thread! That’s why opening my Aurifil Artisian welcome box was like opening a long-awaited Christmas present.

For my first challenge, I created a free motion thread sketch self-portrait showcasing my tattoo quilting style. This piece was stitched totally freehand on longarm using Aurifil 40wt and 50wt threads.

You guyyyysss! My Aurifil Artisan welcome box came this week and I’m in looove ❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️. It has all of my favorite things: 12wt, 50wt, floss, 8wt, 28wt, 40wt, variegated, neon, monofilament, reference cards, swatch book… y’all, it is like the most perfect collection. I *cannot* wait for the upcoming year and to keep creating with Aurifil Thread.

I created the cat iris for my monthly challenge, inspired by the beautiful thread colours in my artisan welcome pack. The eye is embroidered on black calico fabric with a vintage Singer 107W102 in free motion. The pupil has been padded to create a 3D effect. Stretched on artist canvas.

“Colour Buzz” Busy as a bee hanging out with these gorgeous threads. We’ve been getting to know each other well. Having tried out a number of weights on this project and exploring the beautiful colour range available. You can never have enough Aurifil sunshine on these fun floral abstracts to brighten up your day.

Aurifil Thread Used: 50wt in 1100, 2525, 4020, 2350, 2270, 1103, 2582, 6737, 2870, 2120;
28wt in 2150; 80wt in 2835, 2360, 2370

The 50wt thread in 1158 was the perfect match for my binding fabric, making my hand stitches beautifully invisible. For the top, I used a 50wt thread from my 2023 Welcome box, 2560, which complimented the periwinkle blue fabrics.

Woohoo! 🎉 My Aurifil Artisan Welcome Box arrived, and I feel like a kid in a candy store! This box is bursting with all the colorful Aurifil Thread weights and types, plus a shiny new swatch book. SWOON! 50wt is the workhorse in my studio for quilt piecing, but I’m loving the 12wt and floss for hand stitching and embroidery? Think quilt labels. SO GOOD! This year is gonna be loaded with stories told through thread. Let’s make magic together! Happy sewing! xo, Tamara 🌟

I decided to pick out the 8wt threads out of my welcome package and combine them with some Aurifloss to make a little Swiftie denim jacket! The 8wt was so lovely to use as an outline thread and it kept such crisp definition!

Aurifil Threads Used: Aurifloss in 6733, 2515, 2135; 8wt in 2311, 2240

I was inspired by the beautiful colours from the new Hue collection by Ruby Star Society and my new Sashiko sewing machine, that I made two little totes using the two variegated spools from my Artisan box! The Sashiko machine really features the variegated colours and I think the combinations are just perfect.

For the June Artisan Challenge, we were invited to stitch anything we felt inspired to make using the threads included in our introductory pack. I decided on these fish and chips, which are a bit of a favourite in our house! I ended up using lots of different thread weights in order to get the colours right; I’ll definitely be experimenting more with using thicker threads in my machine now, as the textures are so interesting! I’d never noticed the interesting little design details in this packet – the fish between the C and H, the chip fork I, and the seaside themed chip paper stories, which I really enjoyed stitching.

Aurifil Threads Used: 12wt in 2320; 28wt in 1320; 40wt in 2024, 4241; 50wt in 2605, 2270, 5005

So exciting to see how different the welcome boxes are filled. This is mine and I am thrilled to try out them all!

Seeing those greens, I thought it would be nice to see how the different thread weights look together in a flower design. Inspired by Jacquie Gering’s Walk 2.0 book, I made myself templates to guide me and let the thread form a flower. I used @aurifilthread 12wt Very Dark Grass Green (2890) and 50wt in Green Yellow (2884). The result has a lovely texture combined with the Essex linen.

Aurifil Thread Used: 2890 in 12wt and 2884 in 50wt

The Aurifil Welcome Box to the Artisan team was colorful, personal, and so diverse! A mix of various thread weights and colors made the box not only fun to open, but fun to play with too. The unsung hero was the new swatch book- compact, versatile, and perfect for color matching your projects. I am looking forward to an educational and vibrant year playing with Aurifil thread!

I used an array of threads from my welcome kit to piece and quilt a wall hanging of my own quilt pattern, “No Coast”. The wall hanging features a curated bundle of solid fabrics I’m calling “Autumn Prairies”

Aurifil Thread Used: Pieced with: 50wt in 2000 Light Sand. Quilted with: 50wt in 4656 Multicolor Variegated (the top third of the quilt); 50wt in 4060 Silver Moon Variegated (the middle third of the quilt); and 28wt in 4669 Stonewash Blues Variegated (the bottom third of the quilt). I used the 50wt in 2000 Light Sand in the bobbin thread for all three top thread colors.

Just finished my first project as an Aurifil Artisan – thread pouches with my own flower designs using 80wt threads for the needle-turn appliqué, they worked like a dream. ✨ Then I hand quilted them with the thicker 12wt for some quilty texture.

I decided to use the 40wt thread to make this lovely Summer floral dress. This was the perfect weight thread for this lighter cotton fabric, it was a dream to sew with and the strength and smoothness of the thread made the gathering of the skirt section super quick and easy! I love how beautifully the top stitching details have turned out with the thread too!

We encourage you to click through and check out each of these amazing projects in more detail!
