Remember in 2024 when we launched our partnership with FreeSpirit Fabrics in the form of Scrap Bundles? We sure do, because you all showed up to support this initiative with an immeasurable amount of excitement! We were blown away by how quickly each drop sold out! So we knew that after a winter break away, this spring we needed to bring these babies back. We’re thrilled to announce the return of our beloved Scrap Bundles!
What’s in a Scrap Bundle?
Each bundle is a curated collection of fabric cut-offs and strips that FreeSpirit graciously sends to our Chicago office. When they are cutting large quantities of fabrics, there are scraps (often close to the selvage) that are too small to sell in the standard fabric sizes we’re all used to. We’re honored to intercept these little cuties. We pair these unique scraps with coordinating spools of our premium thread. Together, we hope these bundles give you the perfect starting point for your next small project, patchwork piece, slow-sewing session, or whatever unique scrappy project you dream up.
Why scraps though?
Scraps and cut-offs may seem small and unassuming, but throughout our industry as a whole, they truly add up. They often end up being pushed to the side, discarded, and thrown away, ultimately adding to the nearly 16 million tons of annual textile waste in US, 85% of which ends up in landfills. We’re determined to continue pushing for creative reuse and recycling over discarding.

You asked, we listened. If you recall last year’s bundles included 5 small spools of thread. This year, we’ve upped the ante. Each 2025 bundle will include ✨ 7 small spools ✨ giving you even more color variety, inspiration, and creative flexibility!
Why Earth Month?
It’s no coincidence we chose April to announce the relaunch of these bundles. Earth Month is all about celebrating the planet and exploring new ways to live and create more sustainably. These bundles are our love letter to reuse, resourcefulness, and reducing waste! We hope that by breathing new life into these leftover FreeSpirit fabrics, you are challenged to see other scrap materials with greater potential!
Limited Quantities—Unlimited Possibilities
Our Scrap Bundles are made in small batches, and they never last long. Whether you’re a quilter, a mender, or a maker of mini masterpieces, this is your chance to grab something truly special. Starting in May, we will be dropping limited bundles on the last Thursday of each month. While we wish we could make enough for every single person that wants one, these are organized by just two people on our small team! So quantities must remain limited. But, stay tuned to our socials for more information (and tips on securing a bundle through a speedy checkout process) leading up to the May 2025 drop!

We understand that not all scraps will be repurposed into something new, but there are other ways to keep those bits & pieces out of landfill. If you choose not to use your scraps, we’d encourage you to consider one of the options below or look into textile recycling programs in your area.

- FabScrap | Fabric Recycling and Repurposing in NYC & Phildelphia
- Check with your local thrift store. Many have recycling programs already in place to recycle textiles that are too small, worn, damaged, or otherwise unacceptable for resale.

How much are these little bundles of happiness?
Hey Sharon! Thanks for inquiring. Each scrap bundle contains one big box filled with fabric scraps + 7 small spools of Aurifil 50wt thread for $48. Bundle pricing is based solely on the cost of thread + handling. No charge has been added for the scraps. I hope you are able to get in on the next drop on June 26th!
