Greetings, friends! I’m Karen L. Miller, Master Educator for Aurifil, and I’m really excited to continue to share my passion for this incredible thread with you. Whether you’re an experienced maker or just discovering Aurifil for the first time, I hope to provide valuable insight into what makes it so special.
In March, I shared Aurifil Thread Basics, Part I where we covered a brief journey through Aurifil’s history, answered some of your most frequently asked questions, and shared essential tips to help you make the most of your thread. From fiber content to weight selection and everything in between, the goal was to build confidence and inspire creativity every time you thread your needle. Let’s continue this month with a review, a few more FAQ and some reference posts that will help you up your creative game.
Let’s Review

THREAD WEIGHTS:
— Aurifil offers 6 different 2ply cotton thread weights, a wool/acrylic blend 12wt 2-ply, a 6-strand divisible cotton floss, a 40wt/3ply cotton thread, and a nylon monofilament option.
— Each weight/ply combination is identified by a unique spool color:
- 80wt – cherry wooden spool
- 50wt – orange
- 40wt – green
- 28wt – grey
- 12wt cotton and wool – red
- 8wt – white wooden spool
- Floss – neutral wooden spool
- 40wt/3ply – yellow cone
- Monofilament – white
— The lower the thread weight, the thicker the thread.
— Thread thickness increases as additional ply are added. For example, 40wt 3ply (Forty3) is thicker than 40wt 2ply.
— Heavier weight threads require a larger-eyed needle.
Having multiple weights of Aurifil thread enhances creativity by offering a versatile range of textures, finishes, and effects. Finer weights like 80wt are perfect for detailed quilting, appliqué, and invisible stitching, while heavier weights like 8wt and 12wt add bold, decorative accents and visible texture. This variety allows makers to experiment with contrast, depth, and definition in their projects, opening up more creative possibilities in both function and design.
COLOR:
Whether blending seamlessly or standing out boldly, the extensive color range supports both subtle artistry and expressive design.

— For many of their threads, Aurifil offers 270 colors making it easy to match colors with your creative projects.
— 12wt, 28wt, 40wt, & 50wt are available in all 270 colors. 8wt & 12wt wool are each available in 45 colors. 80wt is available in 88 colors. Forty3 is available in 74 colors. Monofilament comes in clear & smoke.
— For details on all cotton weights and colors, Aurifil’s Swatch Book is a wonderful reference. Snag the full version, complete with actual thread wrapped, removable cards OR the digital version via the buttons below.
Now that we’re reviewed and ready to roll, let’s dive back into some of our most frequently asked questions.
Q: Why would one choose 12wt Wool over 12wt Cotton?

A: Aurifil 12wt Wool is a wool/acrylic blend that is not mercerized or singed, giving it a loftier texture, a slightly matte finish, and a primitive, organic appearance. It pairs beautifully with wool or linen fabrics, adding warmth and dimension to hand-stitching projects.

By contrast, Aurifil 12wt Cotton is a 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton, mercerized for a smooth, slightly shiny “perle” finish. It produces crisp, clean lines and is ideal for more precise or decorative stitching with less lint and more polish.

How to Choose?
Your selection depends on the desired texture, finish, and overall aesthetic of your project. Wool gives a soft, tactile, vintage look, while cotton provides structure, shine, and control.

Ready to experiment with different weights and textures?
Try the Aurifilosophy Thread Exemplar, which includes 12wt Cotton, 12wt Wool, and samples of 28wt, 40wt, 50wt, 80wt, and 6-strand Floss. It’s a perfect way to explore Aurifil’s range in one convenient set.

Ask for it at your local quilt shop or browse online at Shop Aurifil via the button below.
Q: What is the best way to store Aurifil thread?
A: Aurifil’s 100% Egyptian cotton thread is best preserved when stored away from dust and direct sunlight. Exposure to sunlight can weaken the fibers and fade colors over time, while dust can settle into the thread and affect stitch quality.
Ideal storage tips:
- Keep threads in a cool, dry space with moderate temperatures
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight
- Use closed containers or cases to minimize dust buildup

Personal tip:
I use the Aurifil Large Spool Storage Cases to organize and protect my threads. They keep spools dust-free, easy to access, and neatly arranged. If you prefer to display your thread on a wall rack, consider covering it with a soft cloth overnight to prevent dust and UV exposure from affecting the quality.

Eager to store your threads like I do? Check out Aurifil’s handy storage cases via the buttons below.
Q: What is the best way to select an Aurifil Thread Collection?
A: Aurifil offers a variety of thoughtfully curated thread collections designed to inspire creativity and simplify project planning. These sets are available in several formats and are often found at your local quilt shop. Hard-to-find or limited-edition collections may also be available online at ShopAurifil.
Collections can be curated in collaboration with a Designer, who selects signature color palettes and thread weights that reflect their personal style, preferred techniques, or specific project goals. Alternatively, House Collections are curated by Aurifil, with a focus on popular colors, thread weights, and essential needs to support a wide range of makers across the globe.

Whether curated by a designer or by Aurifil, collections are typically organized into the following categories:
1. Themed or Project Collections
These collections are built around specific events, holidays, or quilting projects. They feature color and weight combinations selected to match the theme or purpose.

Example: The 2025 Il Borgo Advent Calendar Collection offers a festive range of threads inspired by the charm of an Italian holiday village.
2. Weight-Based Collections
Focused on a single thread weight—such as 50wt for piecing or 12wt for hand embroidery—these collections offer a solid base of essential and versatile colors. They’re ideal for beginners, educators, and anyone looking to build a comprehensive thread library.

Examples: Hilos de Alegría by Vickeidy Plybon offers an array of soft rainbow hues in small 50wt spools. Groove by Emily Van Hoff presents a bold collection of colors to make any maker’s big stitches sing!
3. Color Story Collections
These collections feature thoughtfully selected color palettes, either coordinating or contrasting, and may include one or multiple thread weights. They’re perfect for creating unified looks or experimenting with bold artistic effects.

Examples: Seaside by Barbara Persing offers a range of large 40wt spools specifically selected to complement her Seaside BOM. Menopause Makes by Jenni Smith & Kay Walsh offers 10 small spools in a variety of weights, curated to offer makers an introduction to the different techniques found within their coordinating book.
4. Essential Collections (including Boxed Basics & Neutrals)
These include everyday must-haves like white, black, gray, beige, and other foundational shades. Designed for blending, piecing, and general-purpose sewing, they’re go-to tools for nearly any project.

Examples: Aurifil’s Necessities & Calm Collections offer our top-selling neutral hues in 50wt and 80wt — essential threads for any maker!
Explore What Inspires You
With so many thoughtfully curated options, Aurifil Thread Collections offer something for every maker. Whether you’re drawn to color-driven palettes, technique-specific thread weights, or curated sets that offer a bit of everything, there’s a collection to match your creative style. Explore by designer, theme, or function—and let the threads you choose help bring your unique vision to life.
Q: If I’m having trouble working with Aurifil thread, what do I do?
A: The Auribuzz Blog offers a wide variety of guidance for working with all weights of Aurifil Thread. Be sure to visit often and use the search 🔎 at the top of the page to inquire about specific weight, tension, needle or weight considerations. You might also consider selecting ‘Thread Matters’ in the top level menu to browse past posts and gain insights into particular thread weights. For easy reference, I’ll link one of my favorite troubleshooting posts below.

50 wt is my go to thread. Love it. Susan
I too use 50 weight. Love the light grey as a neutral color to quilt my projects.
Dove grey is my go to color!
My wife just made a beautiful table runner using Aurifil threads. It really turned out great!
Me too! I use Aurifil 50 wt. for all my sewing and piecing and refuse to use anything else. I also love the 40 wt. for free motion quilting and for Embroidery stitches on purses and bags.
Can you use a white thread in your sewing machine?
would the 12 wt (cotton or wool) or 8 wt be suitable for darning? i frequently use sashiko thread right now, but i’m unsure if they compare. (i don’t tend to like 6 strand floss for this purpose)
Does the wool blend need to be hand sewn or use a conditioner in the machine?
I recently completed a quilt that used many different colors of Aurifil thread for the quilting. It was great to branch out from my usual neutrals.
I’m an #aurifilthreadsnob🐞
Aurifil is my thread of choice. Doing the projects in the Thread Labs 1 & 2.
Love to use Aurifil 12 weight for big stitch quilting. I find it’s more economical than competitors with small balls of perle cotton. basaran (dot) family (at) rogers (dot) com
Which thread would be comparable to pearl cotton for big stitch stitches?
I joined in the thread labs and learned so much. Really like all the threads I received to do the projects. Now I am making a floor pillow and using some different weights on my quilting , 40 wt, 28wt, even the 12wt cotton ,, why not ? Use and learn.
Aurifil threads make my hands happy! Last year I really enjoyed the Advent Calendar, making a test stitching and also adding to a spur-of-the-moment Winter Scene on black fabric every day as I opened a new spool. I’m so glad to have my 2025 Advent Calendar pre-ordered. This year I plan to prepare a little more carefully by gathering a number of Winter/Holiday motifs that I can choose from for each day’s stitching. Thank you for wonderful thread!
I’m a cone zone gal….2600, 50 wt. I just finished a cone yesterday! And of course had a backup cone. I get as excited about my Aurifil thread as I do fabric. It completes me!
I did my first thread painting this week using Aurifil threads. The range of colours and weights made the finished result so vivid and just gorgeous.
I always using 50 wt for piecing all of my quilts, I love it!
I’m currently embroidering the It Takes a Village felt panel pieces using the matching Aurifil floss set. Its been so fun and nice to work with! I have been giving some of the human characters hair with the turkey stitch. The female doctor I’m doing a buillon knot at the moment in the dark charcoal/black thread.
The advice says to store thread outside of sunlight which gives me concern on how light will change a completed project. Are there colors that should be avoided if you want a color fast project. I live in Florida and like as much light as possible in my house!
Can these Aurifil threads all be purchased on-line or what is the best retail place to get them ?
Recently joined an embroidery group at my local library. We are embroidering on muslin fabric. What types of threads would you recommend?
I like the aurifil 50wt basics set of white, black and two greys. It’s a good price and so useful to piece blocks.
Loved the Aurifil course, I learned so much!
I used Aurifil threads for the recent Abyss Cherrywood challenge
Aurifil 50wt. is my go-to thread, I always get consistent stitching results. I am in the process of moving and can’t wait to get back to sewing on a wall hanging that has my father’s neckties in it.
Aurifil threads are my favorite for hand sewing as they tend to curl and knot less!
I love all the colors. I don’t do a lot of my own quilting, but when I do I appreciate the selection!!
Aurifil thread does not leave lint in the bobbin case which is wonderful.
Slow stitching with Aurifil is heaven on Earth.
All of my quilt piecing is done with Aurifil. Love the results.
I love Aurifil 50wt for piecing and quilting! And I highly recommend the color card for matching thread to fabric. It’s a very nice tool in my sewing room!
Light Grey is my go to!!!
Aurifil is always my go to for piecing and quilting. Dove Grey and Silver White are great neutrals that work with almost any color scheme.
Just ordered a few more spools to match the fabric for the MQG challenge. Eager to start sewing when it gets here!
I use 50 wt thread for piecing my quilts. The quality is superb and so many colors to choose from.
I’ve been using neutrals-grays, creams, whites-as I practice free motion quilting. I have a ways to go, but I am very happy with how the threat looks on the finished projects.
I use 50wt almost exclusively from piecing to thread painting. I would love to experiment with other weights!
All my piecing and quilting is done using only Aurifil thread. I never run into issues with knots or thinning thread with Aurifil. After spending time on an item that will become an heirloom, I want the thread to last as long as the fabric does. The color options are so extensive I never have a problem finding just that right shade for my project.
I love all my Auriful 50s and the color range I have but I wanted to make comfort bags for our guild distribution. Asked Alex and, of course, get the 40 wts. I should have figured it out myself. All worked beautifully!
I’d be interested to try the difference between 40 and 50wt cotton in my bobbin. I heard 50wt or 80wt is ideal but I am curious to know the difference with 40wt. Would 40wt help with bobbin tension issues?
Love using the variegated thread for quilting gives the final look a wonderful pop
I recently completed a little quilt with thread stitching, and Aurifil threads were perfect for the project! I used threads from the variegated Tula Pink collection.
I love the details and info on how to use and why! Very helpful!!
You mentioned that wool / acrylic blend is not mercerized or singed. What are those two processes and are they then applied to the cotton Aurifil?
I starting using Aurifil 50 weight for all my piecing and love it. But then I fell in love with the 80 weight! I use it for EPP and appliqué and can always find the right color to hide my stitches. I am also using the other weights for various projects. Thanks for the tip about storing the thread out of the light.
These articles are so helpful, especially the best uses and needles and all the gorgeous samples of the beautiful creations your threads enhance!
Aurifil 40 wt is the sweetspot for my machine quilting, and I’m trying out 28 wt for some more visible hand quilting. I have a set of neutral 50 wt Aurifil for my piecing, but love playing with color for the actual quilting.
I absolutely love Aurifil!! I just finished 12 sun hats for our local quilt guild to sell at our upcoming quilt show. I used Aurifil 50 wt for the brim quilting and all the seams. It is strong and blends beautifully into the fabric. Aurifil is always my first thread choice!
I nearly always use 50wt for piecing, 40/50 for quilting. So many great colors to choose from.
How long can Aurifil threads be stored/kept?
Thanks for the explanations of the different kinds of threads. I use 50 wt Aurifil for all my piecing and machine applique. I have been dabbling with quilting some of my own quilts on my domestic Bernina and am using 40 wt. I look forward to trying some of the other threads. I store them in the Aurifil boxes and love my Swatch Book.
I do a lot of wool hand sewing, I want to give your 12 weight wool a try. I love the colors.
I’m using different weights of Aurifil thread to embellish some cute wool Christmas ornaments.
I recently switched to Aurifil thread and am so pleased with the lack of lint in/ on my machine and needle.
Can Aurifil thread be used to do machine embroidery Edge to Edge quilting, and if so would 50 wt be best to use?
I use 50 wt Aurifil in all my projects, usually dove gray in stitching and the various colors for topstitching. When working in a quilt shop, we had several ladies come in with a messed up spool from trying to find a starting thread. To start a new spool, remove the bottom of the spool and there you will find your starting tread. Easy peasy! No more messed up spools and wasted thread!
I just finished a 4th of July wall hanging with my favorite thread, Aurifil 50 wt! Turned out great. Thanks for sharing a great giveaway.
The Warm & Cool Aurifilosophy Thread Exemplars look like a great way to do some experimenting. Fun packages. I have a question about thread storage that I have been giving a lot of thought as I am trying to create a studio space: What ideas to people have for organizing threads? I do have a dozen of the Aurifil cases but am especially wondering if people put all their thread weights together or sort by weight then colour? I have been going back and forth on those two approaches and would love some thoughts on how – and why- people choose to sort.
I would like to complete a cross stitch project using the Aurifil 6 strand, is there a color chart to match DMC numbers to the Aurifil version of the color?
looking forward to working on new project with Aurifil thread
I would love to try the 12 wt wool thread for an embroidery piece.
Love Aurifil threads as does my machine. My current project is a mystery quilt our guild is doing.
I love the 40 and 50 weight Aurifil threads!!!
I use 12 wt wool for seeing together wool felt projects. It virtually disappears in whipstitched seams.
I love all the Aurifil thread! ALL of it! I have bought collections and the Tula Pink colors and used it on by Annie bags and have never had any issues!
I wondered if I would utilize the Aurifil color swatch cards- took a chance and invested in it and I use it all the time!
A friend taught me how to EPP using Aurifil 50 wt. I just read a comment on Facebook that it is better to use Aurifil 80 wt. Which is better to use? I love using Dove for all my projects.
A local quilt shop recommended Aurifil thread to me and I have used it ever since. Mostly use 50wt but bought some a 12wt to do some big stitch with.
In one of my first quilt classes the instructor suggested we use aurifil thread. I tried it and have been using it ever since. I typically use the 50 Wes but have some 40 wt that I use for appliqué. I also bought a fun color set of 12 wrs for hand embroidery on a fall pumpkin project. It doesn’t matter what size the thread is – I love aurifil and suggest it to all my quilting friends. Aurifil thread is THE BEST!!!
Which thread is the best for when you make a bag? I hear different thoughts.
I LOVE Aurifil threads! They are my go to for sewing. For strength, colors, low lint and variety! As much as I use it I’m curious, is it better to use the same weight top and bottom or is 60 in the bottom with 40 or 50 weight good? I do both, which is better? thanks
I just bought the mini thread storage boxes and I love them!
Aurifil Always! I’m happy to see another Advent Box this year. Last December was so fun with a wonderful Aurifil surprise each day. 💕
Aurifil is superior piecing thread. It is my go to. Using 40 vs 50 weight makes a viable difference in flat seams.
Aurifil is in all of my quilted projects. I use it for piecing & free motion quilting! I am trying to collect a variety of colors!
Can you use the same thread when piecing a quilt as when you do the quilting? Or should you use different weights or types?
I keep my Aurifil thread in cases in a drawer. Most everything I have was 50wt until I got the advent calendar box last year. What a difference a thread makes! I just started to big stitch quilt and love the options with the different weights. I’ll be trying the floss in my next cross stitch project. Thank you Aurifil for all the possibilities.
I love Aurifil thread but I have not tried your floss. Since it comes on a spool, do I handle it any differently than other types of floss?
I’m using the light green #1147 50 wt for my binding. It matches my fabric perfectly that it’s almost too close to the color of the fabric that it’s hard to see as I stitch. Which of course is the point… it’s almost invisible! I’ve been using 50 wt for machine piecing, quilting and hand stitching the binding. I LOVE my Aurifil thread!!! Thanks for the chance to win Warm or Cool Aurifilosophy Thread Exemplar set.
I love the variety of weights allowing me to work so many different types of projects. I have used Aurifil exclusively since the beginning of my quilting journey.
I was trying to quilt a colorful quilt top using just black/white/gray, but it just didn’t do it — I pulled out a bright Aurifil collection and matched the colors, and it just looked so much better!
50 weight has been a favorite for piecing. I have the white, black and tan spools.
I machine appliqué with Aurifil 80wt using a tiny buttonhole stitch. My friend who is a hand appliqué queen was having trouble finding a good weight and good colors, so every time I changed a color on my machine I wrapped a length of 80 wt thread around a small muslin roll for her. She was sold! She ordered a rainbow and more of colors and became a happier appliquér.
Aurfil is the best. I use 50wt for piecing. I love using 80wt for applique.
I use Aurifil 50 wt in all sewing. I am usually making quilts, but requests for mending, curtain making and all kinds of things get me off course pretty often. Currently I have a quilt top almost finished, and a tee shirt cutout, ready to sew together. Would love more colors of thread to choose from!
Would love a discussion on monofilament and how to best use it in one of these posts!
What is the heaviest weight you would run through your sewing machine and would you just straight stitch or free motion?
I use 50 wt for piecing but have been told you can use 40 wt as well. Confused.
I used the Aurifil 50 weight for my current, and almost completed (yay!) EPP project, Smitten (Lucy Carson Kingwell). The thread seems to melt right into the fabric and the tiny stitches are barely visible.
I appreciate the wide variety of colors, and strong threads to hold my project(s) together.
Next up is to quilt my current FPP project, Greenhouse Garden (Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill) with a variety of green, pink and neutrals.
In it to win it!
I recently quilted a queen size quilt on my domestic machine using the 40 weight thread. It gives lovely definition without being too heavy.
I’ve been doing more applique and previously worked on a quilt/wall hanging for my great granddaughter and I love aurafil 50wt cotton for the pieces especially the intricate details. It may be 50wt but it’s so fine that it’s easy to stitch with. I just love it for all my quilting.
I first tried Aurifil thread during the pandemic when I was running low on thread and bought the Necessities box. It’s great!
A friend told me to use Aurifil 50 weight to make my quilts. I bought some and used it. I was sold! It’s all I use now.
Someone above commented that they have never had a problem with Aurifil threads – however, I have had at least 2 spools of 50wt that have had big knots/bobbles in them. I have had to stop sewing, unwind a batch of thread and re-thread my machine. Do I have any recourse with the manufacturer on this, or would I have to keep track of which spools I have bought where and go back to the seller?
I use 80 wt to sew my hexagons together. I can either match color or use a neutral. As the stitches are small and many, the hexes hold together very well. 80 wt. does hide well in the fabric.
I use Aurifil 50 wt. for all of my piecing and general sewing. I have use 12 wt. cotton on some wool applique. I have very limited use of the wool thread. I would like to try using Aurifil floss. When I quilt on my sewing machine, I generally use Aurifil thread.
I am using a combination of 80 weight and 50 weight Aurifil in my current applique project from McKenna Ryan. I love the way the 80 weight disappears as I sew around the edges of the applique and the 50 weight also matches my backgrounds so nicely. The batiks work nicely with the Aurifil because they have a texture and the threads only add an additional texture to the beautiful fabrics. I am slowly building up my collection of 80 weight threads. So many pretty colors! Love your thread. K-
I love using aurifil 50 weight for machine and hand piecing my quilts. I have also used 50 weight for machine quilting. Someday I will try a heavier weight for machine quilting.
I experimented with different Auriifil thread weights from the 2024 Advent Calendar, to create a bespoke embroidered denim jacket for my sister’s birthday. Not only was it fun to have the threads, but she really loves the gift.
I use Aurifil 50wt & 40 wt thread exclusively in both my Featherweight & my Bernina when piecing and FMQ. They are both happy machines, and I love the results. I use 50wt and am experimenting with 80wt thread (again from my Advent box) when doing EPP.
50 wt has been my go to for epp. Currently working on the Queen of Diamonds. Excited to try the 80 wt.
I recently made a paper pieced house block and used 12 wt thread to stitch around the windows, doors, and roof. It really made the house stand out.
I have used the 50 wt cotton thread for hand turn appliqué . Love the color choices and the durability of the product. I have also used the Aurifloss it is wonderful
There’s so much to learn about thread it’s almost overwhelming! I’ve always just bought what I found in the store and am just starting to learn about what’s available here. I’ve printed out the reference guide and will start my education there.
I’m a newbie and still trying to learn the basics. What weight would be appropriate for use in a sewing machine?
You’ve really educated me! Thanks for all the info!
The 50 wt is my favorite, I use it for piecing & quilting! Both of my machines love it!
My two go to threads are 50wt and 40wt. Love 40wt to do top stitching.
I like piecing with your 50 weight thread, It’s getting harder and harder to find 100% cotton thread, I’m finding more and more cotton covered polyester. When you use heavier weight thread to quilt do you always use 50 weight in the bobbin?
thanks,
Mara
I will only use Aurifil Thread as my Bernina loves it!
50Wt for machine piecing and love the 80Wt for hand piecing.
I only use Aurifil Thread for ALL my sewing needs.
I’ve started to experiment with the 40wt variegated thread for quilting. Makes for a fun finish!
Which weight of thread would be the best for hand quilting?
50 weight is perfect for piecing , EPP and appliqué . Great colors that match any fabric I use and blend well. Perfect partnership with cotton cloth.
I am currently working on the Aviary BOM from Shabby Fabrics. This BOM provided a curated box of Aurafil thread 12 wt. I have not used this thread before and I live the results.
Finished quilting a table runner with variegated 50 wt. Best thread I’ve used!
I recently completed a quilt for a friend using some of her husband’s ties. I was very pleased with the Aurifill gray 80 weight which I used both for applique and free-motion quilting!
Love Aurifil, as does my machine. It is the only thread I use. Love the 89wt for EPP!
I love the House Collections and particularly the 50 wt Color Builders set of 12 boxes. I always have the perfect thread color on hand!
I love your description of the different types of collections, and your use of the storage cases. Thanks again!
I love the various weights of the thread. I do a lot of hand stitching and
Ike the #12.
I did some tiny foundation paper piecing and used 80 weight. It made the piecing less bulky which made the process so much easier. Thanks for the great information!
I use Aurifil threads for all my quilting needs. My machine loves them and so do I.
Can either the 12wt cotton or the 12wt wool be used in a sewing machine and if it can what size needle should be used?
I love the quality of the threads and the ease of use, especially the small spools that are so easy to carry when doing English paper piecing.
For my sewing machine, polyester thread, cotton for hand work, would like to try the wool.
My tip is when you’re threading a needle (hand sewing or machine), cut the end of the thread at an angle rather than straight across. While this will refresh your thread by eliminating any seen/unseen wispy ends, it also makes it a “thinner” tip to more easily go through the needle’s eye.
Love both 40 wt and 50 wt Aurifil threads. I do keep my vast color selection in plastic thread storage cases and now have 2 large ones filled. Just finished a mini charm bag in Cottage soft pastel mini charms as a gift. Ended up quilting in white because it looked the best with the soft peaches, blues, greens and yellows. Attached small peach flower enamel charm to zipper. Recipient loved it.
I’m so pleased with 80 wt for needle turn applique. The quality makes it easy (with practice) to achieve good results and push the boundaries of my skills.
Today I received Honey Bee Essentials, a limited Aurifil Collection by Lori Holt. I’m ready to start Sweet Land by Lori Holt. Love the colors, I don’t have to search for matching color threads for the project, all included in the collection. Also over the years I was lucky enough to hear Alex here in the US twice talk about Aurifil.
I liked this explanation of the basics. Hope to soon use the 12wt wool in a hand needle project.
I have 3 cones of most used Aurifil thread: Black, Dove, and an Off White
Love to use Aurifil 12 weight for big stitch quilting.
I use 80wt for appliqué on my Hawaiian quilts and 50wt for quilting. I’m always happy with how they work in my projects.
