Alison Holt is a Textile Artist specializing in freehand machine embroidery. She studied Fine Art Textiles and Embroidery at Goldsmiths College, London . She works to commission, regularly exhibit her embroideries and she has published several books and a DVD about her work.
Working on white silk stretched onto a frame, I draw and then paint a background with silk paints, it is based on a photograph I have taken of the countryside where I live.
I choose the threads using a wide range of colours, then I work freehand with the sewing machine and ‘paint’ with stitches
This is the completed embroidery; I have only used straight stitch and zigzag and fine cotton threads
This shows the source photograph and dark tones embroidered onto the painted background &The finished embroidery
These are more examples of my embroideries. They are all free hand machine embroidery on a painted silk background
why don’t you put the artist picture next to each artist instead of the virtual “pinup”?
