Meet the 2012 Aurifil Designers

Hi I’m Pat Sloan, the Aurifil Designer of the Month coordinator.  I’d so excited to introduce you to our Dynamic 2012 Aurifil Design Team!  Each month one of these amazing designers will be creating a stitchery using Aurifil 12 wt thread.

The 12 stitcheries will be small and very doable. All 12 can then be put into a custom quilt design from Sherri Falls, our February artist. (sneak peeks of the layout a bit later!)

In 2012 we want to showcase our 12 wt thread for hand work. 12 wt is used for embroidery, stitchery, sashiko, big stitching quilting, and even very fine crochet!  The 12 designers have designed a small stitchery picking colors they love and creating a design to reflect the month they are featured. I’ve seen some of the sketches and they are totally adorable!

Our friends at Moda fabrics have given each of the designers this “Sassy” layer cake designed by Sandy Gervais. The stitchery will be framed with some “Sassy” and the rest of the layer cake is used in the final quilt. See the fabrics in this line HERE

We invite you to meet our design team now by visiting their blogs.

Come back the first Thursday of the Month to read my interview with one of the designers and pick up the pattern for the stitchery.

Load your finished stitchery each month into the Aurifil Flickr folder. We pick a random project once a month to win a thread gift!

    1. Ferne the 12 wt thread is used most often for handwork. it is thick. But people do use it to free motion quilt or do bobbin work. You just need to treat it as you would any thick thread. As you can see in the write up, we use it for a lot of things!

  1. Lovely ideas and can’t wait – thanks for asking Gail to be part of the choice of designers as I would have never found out about it otherwise – is there anyone that will be selling the threads as bundles ? – we are limited in retail shops where I live and the closest stockist if 100km away. Thanks Nay

  2. I would love to participate in this too. I can contact Roseann for thread bundles but is there a list or a kit for all the fabric we need?
    Thanks
    Debbie

    1. Hi Debbie!

We do recommend you contact Roseann at Rosebud’s cottage. You can also pick up a layer cake of Sassy at your local store or on the internet. We are using a cream background.. which I’ll bet you have some in your stash! Roseann will have thread but I’m not sure if she has any of the layer cakes.

  4. Are there small spools of these threads available? The large spools are $9-10 each and would be $50+ a month for this project. I want to join in but that is a huge expense!

  5. Oops…just thought of another question…do you have to use those fabrics and those threads to join in and maybe win a prize? Thanks in advance for the clarification!

    1. Ruth you do not need to use the fabric..

Since these free patterns and all the fun giveaways are being sponsored by Aurifil Thread, we would REALLY love that all the people who submit work use our thread.

  6. I am attempting to locate the rest of the free hand stitching designs for the 2012 block of the month. I have January – July. I can’t seem to find the right spot to locate the designs and the free patterns with instructions. I would kindly love advice on where to find them. Thanks much!
