  1. My favorite traditional block is the Shoo Fly. I think this is because when i was a little girl my Grandma used to sing a song (while accompanying herself on the piano) that had the line: “Shoo fly, don’t bother me, ’cause I’m in love with somebody”.

  2. I don’t know that I have a favorite block, I keep trying new things. Probably anything pieced with a star in it or appliqued with a flower.

  3. It’s hard to pick a favorite because I love all the traditional pieced blocks but if I have to pick one it would be the friendship star block because I have made so many friends during my quilting years!…oh and Aurifil thread is my absolute favorite thread!

  4. My favorite traditional block is a log cabin. There are lots of variations, but one starting point! 🙂

  5. The block that I continually go back to is the pinwheel. I guess it became my favorite without ever realizing it! Thank you for the opportunity to win one of your beautiful thread collections!

  6. The Dresden plate draws my attention every time I are it! I prefer modern quilting, but I am working on new ways to used traditional blocks to make them more modern. Having so much fun. I have not ever used the Aurofil threads before, but would like I try them out.

  7. My favorite traditional block is any star! They are so versatile and look great in quilts, table runners, wall hangings, on pillows. Endless possibilities

  8. so far my favorite, go to block, is the log cabin
    these thread colors are gorgeous
    thanks for a chance

  9. My favorite traditional block is the 9 patch. There are so many designs that can be made with this 1 block.

  10. I have two and can’t choose between — Pinwheels and baskets — love them both and use them whenever I can. Thanks for this opportunity.

  11. My favorite block this week is courthouse step/log cabin. Last month is was churn dash block. I love your threads!

  12. I love the good old 4 and 9 patch blocks because of all the things that can be done with them: Irish chains, splitting them, disappearing them, shading them , and on and on!

  13. My favorite block is Dresden Plate. My grandmother made several quilt tops in this design and that is what first made me interested in quilt making. I have made several quilt tops but have not completed my Dresden yet.

  14. My absolute favorite block …….actually I have two!! I cannot live without the hexagon and my Grandmothers flower garden sewn by hand. I love taking a project with me any where I go. And the dresden plate is a very, very close second. It is close to my heart cause it was my mother’s block and she passed away too young.

  15. While I’m admittedly not much of a traditional block quilter, I love log cabin and it’s endless possibilities.

  16. Amazingly, I am such a new quilter that I’m not sure I have made any “traditional” blocks. Having started with a One Block Wonder, I’ve been a little wonky every since! But I will go with log cabin, it can be made in so many different ways!

  17. I love the simple 9-patch, sometimes made with half-square triangles! I only use Aurefil thread for all my piecing but I have never used 12 wt for top stitching. I would love to.

  18. Hmmm…tough question! I would have to say, I always admire the pineapple, but also love log cabin, flying geese, 1/2 square triangles, and the ole’ standby, nine-patch! 🙂 I’ve never been good at picking favorite things, but I know I LOVE Aurifil!!! 😀

  19. I would have to say log cabin. It is great for beginners (my first) yet can be changed by an experienced quilter into something new, exciting and interesting.

  20. My favorite block is a toss up between a simple nine patch and the ever versitable log cabin.
Endless possibilities with either of them.
Thanks for the chance to win :0)

  21. My favorite is the log cabin with friendship star coming in a close second. Thanks for the giveaway – the colors in this thread collection are beautiful!

  22. I love the simple nine patch Because it is so flexible. Can be combined with so many other blocks to create more complex patterns. Or it can be chopped up and distorted to disappear or be very modern.

    1. PLEASE unsubscribe me from this list! Thank you Gwengoepel@gmail.com

  23. Wow, it’s SO hard to choose a favorite. I love baskets because there’s so much variety …also stars…
    Terri in Texas

  24. My favorite block is the churn dash block – either traditional or wonky. Thanks for the give away!

  25. Double Wedding Ring is my absolute favorite quilt! I have always wanted one. I’ve only been quilting about 2 1/2 years so I’m not ready to accomplish it yet, but I will! 🙂 Thank you for the great thread giveaway.

  26. I love the log cabin block…having a red center to signify home and hearth just give me an all over warm feeling…especially during this “chapter” of my life adjusting to an “empty nest”…

  27. How can I choose any one block as my favourite? It’s like choosing one child over another! But today I am making quarter square triangles so that is my favourite just now.

    PS love Aurifil!

  28. Log cabin, log cabin, log cabin!! Whether traditional or modern, the log cabin always gets my attention!

  29. So hard to choose! As I read each comment, I thought, “Oh–that’s my favorite!”. I suppose my favorite is the Schoolhouse block.

  30. Churn Dash is my all-time favourite block.
Thank you sooo much for this awesome giveaway,
    Jacqueline in Pitt Meadows

  31. She is an amazing woman and SO talented 🙂 She has put a lot of hard work into where she is at today! What a wonderful lady to represent those beautiful threads. I love the Ohio Star 🙂

  32. My favorite block is any type of star block. Have just recently started using Aurifil thread and really enjoy using it.

  33. I would have to say that my favorite block would be the pinwheel. I love the colours in the collection, awesome! sguday at shaw dot ca

  34. I love cathedral windows and disappearing nine patch. Cannot pick just one I love them all quilting is in my blood and always looking for something new.

  35. Storm at Sea is my today favorite, since I am now finishing my latest Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt, but I feel that perhaps a lovely feathered star might be my next favorite! 🙂

  36. My favorite traditional block is flying geese, because the first quilt I made was a queen size sampler quilt and I made one of the blocks too small so I added flying geese borders on two sides that made the quilt come tough ther perfectly.

  37. I have recently come across
Clay’s Choice, and it has to just be my favorite Block , and once u get the right fabric and of course the matching 40 wt Aurifil Thread , u have the most fabulous quilt of your Dreams , Now get out there and Make that Beauty

  38. My favorite block is anything paper pieced. I am making a log cabin paperpieced quilt and aurifil thread is wonderful on this small 45 pc block.

  39. Thank you for the lovely giveaway! My favorite traditional block is the log cabin with the Lone star as a close second. Some day i will make a lone star quilt!

  40. I love the Ohio Star (and your thread). I was a skeptic. I thought how great can it be? Then I machine quilted with it. Oh my goodness! The difference is amazing. I will never go back to those other brands again!

  41. If I had to pick one favorite (I have many), I would probably pick the log cabin–I love all of the variations that I have seen determined by color placement. Unbelievably, it is still on my bucket list to make a log cabin quilt–for some reason, I’ve never gotten up the gumption to make one!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  42. any star block works for me. ( realized my first entry was an incomplete email address as I clicked post comment-sorry)

  43. My favorite traditional block? Hard to say, but I’d have to go with nine-patch or four-patch because I use those a lot when I piece, which isn’t often.

  44. I love log cabin in Victoria’ scrappy style. I’m addicted.
Thanks for the chance to win those beautiful threads

  45. My favorite “traditional quilt block” would have to be the “ole fashion string quilt blocks”….. My Mama and Grandmama used newspaper to sew the strings on. When the top was completed, they would enjoy sitting and talking while tearing the paper off. Just good childhood memories for me with the “String Blocks”…

  46. I love so many blocks it is hard to pick just one. I guess the flying geese block would hit high on the list as it is so versatile, and can be used in so many star blocks, borders, sashing, or by itself. I love the precision of a flying geese block

  47. I love the 9 patch best. Easy and classic, but so many ways to change it up and use it in combination with something else.

  48. I love the log cabin for it’s endless possibilities and flexibility when playing or using up colors.

  49. My favorite to look at is the double wedding ring, but I haven’t made up my mind to try making one yet. I haven’t found a favorite one to make because I haven’t been piecing long enough to pick one over another.

  50. My favorite traditional block is the Churn Dash – I can totally relate to the MN girl having quilts from grandma:)

  51. Hi! I don’t know that I have made enough quilts to have a favorite! There is still hoe though. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  52. My favorite block is Churn Dash. The first block I was taught when I started quilting. Thanks for a chance to win some amazing Aurifil threads!

  53. Log Cabin and feathered star. I LOVE Victoria and her work. I’ve met her a few times. She’s the sweetest!

  54. I love the Ohio Star even though I am Indiana born and raised. And the smaller the block the better!
Crossing my fingers. I love Aurifil threads

  55. I’m just learning, so right now it would be 4-patch or 9-patch … gotta start somewhere, right?

  56. I love the Card Trick block. I have a big stash of red and white ones. I made it a goal for 2014, to set them in a quilt and finish it. My other (growing) stash is comprised of cheddar Card Trick blocks. I plan to add to that stash this year. Hurray for Aurifil thread. It makes my “vintage” Bernina, Ruby, very happy.

  57. My favorite quilt block in the Dresden Plate. Quick and easy to do and yet it always looks great.

  58. My favourite traditional block is, I think, the Dresden plate. Or maybe the Churn Dash? There are so many fabulous traditional blocks. Thank you so much for this fabulous giveaway!

  59. As I scrolled through the comments, I found so many listed that I love! But I’ll post the one I had in mind before I read the list: shoofly!

  60. My favorite traditional block is the Dresden Plate. Thanks for the chance to win that beautiful thread.

  61. Flying Geese, Thank you for the opportunity to be able to win such beautiful threads, hanging out to try them…

  62. Jacob’s Ladder b/c I grew up with 2 quilts from my dad’s side of the family that were made of all Jacob’ ladders. Not sure how old the quilts were but they are why I started quilting!!

  63. My favorite traditional block, at the moment, is probably the pinwheel. At least, it is the one I find myself making most often, recently.

  64. My favorite is the x and + block. Still haven’t made a scrappy version yet. Love the colors of this thread collection and thanks for the giveaway.
    Ramona

  65. I love so many blocks but I have to say Churn Dash is my fave. every time I see it I just feel happy. This collection, like every aurifill collection, is lovely and I really appreciate the opportunity to enter to win it. Thanks!

  66. My mouth is watering after looking at the beautiful threads. My favourite block is Delectable Mountain.

  67. My favorite block is the Log Cabin, because there are so many possibilities for design! The thread colors in Victoria’s set are amazing!

  68. I love log cabin blocks. The many layout possibilities makes it a go to block for a quick easy quilt. shirl. handquiltATyahoo.com

  69. I would choose flying geese because there are so many different possibilities to lay it out I’ve not done them, though! Triangles…. scary! That’s my future goal as my quilting/piecing skills progress.

  70. Pine burr – love those little triangles (pickle dish for the same reason if I wasn’t so afraid of it!). Love these threads so wishing hard!

  71. My favorite traditional block is a feathered star. I have only made one but it is on my list to make more. Thanks for the opportunity to win such lovely thread.

  72. Hmm, I don’t really have a favourite traditional block that I’ve made, but I love, love, love Mariner’s Compass blocks. Thanks for the fabulous giveaway! I could definitely put those threads to good use. 🙂

  73. New York Beauty is my current favourite. Your thread collections are absolutely gorgeous so thanks for the chance to win 🙂

  74. My favorite traditional block is the humble pinwheel! So easy, simple, versatile. Would love to be the lucky recipient of these beautiful threads!

  75. I am drawn to star blocks. I am pretty new to quilting, so I don’t know all the names of them, but they’re all lovely!

  76. My favorite is the pinwheel for children’s quilts and I love the Lone Star. I’m getting ready to longarm a quilt made from your Pretty Graphic design in the February issue of American Patchwork & Quilting magazine. Thank you for sharing your great designs.

  77. Stars, stars, stars… Big stars, small stars, traditional stars, wonky stars. My next challenge will be a Lonestar (with the Y seams)

  78. My favorite traditional block would probably be some version of a Nine-Patch. Reminds me of all those tic-tac-toe games I played growing up and there are so many variations.

  79. My favorite quilt block will always be the Nine Patch. When I was ten years old in the 1962, I asked all my neighbors for fabric and my mom taught me to hand sew a Nine Patch Block. Mom helped me put all the blocks together and Dad built a quilt frame. The best part is the whole family helped quilt, including my 2 older brothers. Lots of sore fingers later, we had a finished quilt and the best part is that I still have it today. Good memories!!

  80. Being that I love to appliqué I would say that my favourite traditional block would be the Rose of Sharon.

  81. Mariners compass is probably my favorite, but I haven’t made one yet. Trying to get my courage up.

  82. I love to quilt but I am a beginner so I keep it simple and works with charmpacks and the mini’s and the colours must be brightfull so it makes me happy and have fun😊 I like paperpiecing also a lot.
It would be nice to win such beautifull colours of aurifill for my birthday on the 16 th of Februar!!
    Bye 💝

  83. Currently I’m into the economy block. I would love to make a ton of little ones. What a fun quilt.
thanks contentncm at yahoo dot com

  84. My favorite block is Trip around the World. My mother made all her quilts with this block, and whenever I see one it reminds me of her cutting out blocks and sewing each one by hand.

  85. ….if I have to……then I’d say the Pinwheel Star block, because it combines three blocks, the Sawtooth Star, Pinwheel block, and oh yeah, the Square in a Square.

  86. My favorite — mariner compass stars. So many variations from simply to intricate. One I see one in a quilt, no matter how small or large — always makes me stop.

  87. I just love the versatility of the 9 Patch! Lately I am most intrigued by the Drunkard’s Path, and plan to spend some time this year playing with that.

  88. Love the Log Cabin block – traditional or modern/contemporary! Aurifil threads – my newest obsession – having recently ‘discovered’ them! I am now a true believer.

  89. My favorite traditional block is probably any star block. As my maiden name is Morningstar, I just love those stars!

  90. I love a Dresden plate… Being a traditional quilter, I really love all traditional blocks, but if I had to choose, I’d pick a Dresden plate! 😊

  91. I would have to say that my favorite block would be a Star block. There are so many variations and they all turn out so pretty! 🙂 Thanks so much for having this awesome giveaway. Aurifil is super awesome Thread!!

  92. i am new to quilting so all i have done is the jelly roll race and my own concept….the blocks scare me…they look so difficult so i’ve kept putting them off. so i don’t have a favorite yet.

  93. Anything with half square triangles. They give quilts so much movement. But a simple 9-patch is so versatile.

  94. I love a super simple half square triangle because you can do so much with them. But maybe they don;t count as actual blocks. For something more substantial, it’s a tie between a log cabin and a bear paw.

  95. I don’t know if a Crazy quilt is Traditional block per say, but it is my favorite quilt of all time. Especially when done with velvets, satins, cordaroys and lots of embroidery!

  96. I love stars of any kind. My favorite is any version of a LeMoyne star (Liberty, silver and gold, etc). And there’s so many things you can do with a sawtooth star!
    reillyr2(at)hotmail(dot)com

  97. Wow that is a hard question, “What is my favorite traditional block?” How can I chose just one? It has to be 9-patch, great for beginners, yet for advanced sewing you can do so many things with it

  98. My favourite block is the Log Cabin Block, versatile in itself and in the final layout. Not to mention the contrast of colours, which is always a surprise.

  99. I love the versatility of the log cabin, and the dresden plate I just made for my daughter is a close second!

  100. I’m also a big fan of Star Blocks – with Morningstar being my favorite – it’s my Maiden name… Love your new thread collection Victoria – just beautiful!

  101. My favorite traditional block is the churn dash. I love the clean lines of it and it always reminds me of watching the butter churn in the gallon jar at my gram’s house.

    1. My favorite block is the Swamp Angel. I made one in blues, greens and creams and I just loved it. It was a gift for a friend and I’ve been trying to decide what colors I want to use to make one for myself!

  102. My favorites are the Ohio Star and the nine patch. Nine patch is just so versatile. Also like Flying Geese…..gee whiz …..I like them all! 🙂

  103. My favorite traditional block is the Friendship Star, I’ve even used it on a Priest’s garment! Love it!

  105. Card tricks! Oh but then I love star blocks too..then there’s Dresden plate…sigh so hard to choose!

  106. Simple as it may be, I still love the four-patch block surrounded by a white border. To me, this block showcases any color of fabric so well; from bright vibrant prints to the most beautiful of pastels ~~ all are beautifully displayed in this block.

  107. I’m very new to quilting and just learned how to make the 3 rail block. Getting lots of ideas on how to expand the method 😉

  108. Victoria’s thread choices are gorgeous. And the way she uses them are beautiful and fresh. My favorite quilt block is the Churn Dash with the Shoofly a close second.

  109. I have always liked the log cabin for its versatility but I am recently loving half square triangles cause they present so many possibilities too! Love love love the colors in this collection!

  110. Log Cabin used to be my verrrry favorite block….but now seems to have changed to Churn Dash, HST’s, and Dresdon’s! lol

  111. My favorite traditional block is the Lemoyne Star! (But, looking over the other responses here, I saw the Honey Bee block mentioned. Not familiar with that, I googled it… and love the look of it! I’ll have to try that one! It might give my favorite star some competition!)
    Thank you!!

  112. My favorite traditional block is the log cabin. It was the first block I ever made, waaayy back when I didn’t know what I was doing. They were minature blocks for a Christmas stocking. I’m still proud of them! Since then, I have even made liberated log cabin blocks. They are lots of fun. Thanks for the chance to win Victoria’s threads!

  113. I love hexies and stars: there are so many possibilities with each of them! Thanks for the give-away!

  114. I’m grateful that I can finally leave a comment and join in the fun and hopefully win this totally gorgeous quilt collection. I’d love to use it to make my favorite traditional quilt block..which is of course, probably THE most popular, the log cabin, but always with a MODERN twist, which in my case is often the LIBERATED and WONKY side! I’d love to win it, sew with each and every color and then blog about it. I’ve followed V since the very beginning of her blog, a decade ago?, And boy, oh boy, I would SO love to win this FABULOUS THREAD COLLECTION BY V!!!

  115. Im currently into half square triangles you can do so much wwith them. I just finished a chevron baby quilt for my new great nephew. Would love to try your threads. Thanks

  116. My favorite traditional block is the nine-patch because there are so many ways you can use it to acieve so many different looks.

  117. Well, I do love the DWR block even though I’ve not actually made it. I have a DWR quilt my grandma made in the 30s and I think that’s the biggest attachment I have to the block. Victoria’s DWR quilt is outstanding. I’m already signed up for her lecture at the WI Museum of Quilts in June!

  118. I love Granny Squares the most the past few years. Who knows what is in the future. I love all your quilts. Beautiful doesn’t do them justice.

  119. I’ve not done many traditional blocks but the churn dash was fun and I’m snout to start on a lot of hour glass blocks

  120. Love the dresden plate block and the feathered star block. Your thread is beautiful and having a chance to win is great.

  121. My favorite is Log Cabin – I love what it symbolizes! And I love the millions of layouts you can make with it!

  122. My favorite traditional block hands down is the drunkards path. I am just finishing another quilt using this versatile block and each one looks entirely different.

  123. I like the nine patch. It’s so versatile and can look completely different if you change colors or placement.
    email: kaeseymakes [at] yahoo.com

  124. I love anything with a star in it–Wonky Stars are so much fun! Thanks so much for this opportunity to win these beautiful threads!

  125. My favorite block is the mariner’s compass block, but I must say I love any star or feathered star. The nine patch is one I can always run to for a quick, brightly colored baby quilt. As long as I can sew a little every day, doesn’t really matter what the pattern. I am quite sure I’m not the only quilter with 10 – 20 projects in mind and in line at any given time and these colors will liven up any project we have!

  126. My favorite traditional block is the 4 patch.
Perhaps because I made my 1st quilt with these blocks.

  127. I love, love, love, auriful thread! As for a favorite block not sure eventually I want to do the irish chain and the double wedding ring (my bucket list)

  128. One of my favorite blocks is the log cabin. Thank you for the opportunity to win this yummy collection of thread.

  129. My favourite is the Friendship Star – I love stars, and this is the block I made to send to a friend, a very early block I did. – Although I’m still a beginner.

  130. My favorite block (as of this second, but it may be different by the end of the comment) is the spool as I’ve been playing with embellishments.

  131. MY favorite traditional block is log cabin…but I like to use modern vivid fabrics to pack a punch !

  132. My current favorite is Winding Ways but I do love any and all star blocks! Oh yes, and Aurafil thread which I use for practically everything!

  133. Love a traditional 9 patch! You can do so much with it….and it makes a great background for beautiful quilting using aurifil threads! 🙂

  134. My favorite traditional block is Fifty-four Forty and Fight. I am always attracted to quilts with that particular block.

  135. I like the old school patches of the four and nine patches. They are so versatile because you can lay them out in so many different ways.

  136. I can’t decide if my favorite is Variable Star or Card Trick. I love them both! Thanks for the chance to win my favorite thread!

  137. I love stars! Just made two lone star quilts as gifts (not really a block, I know) but it’s amazing how differently they both turned out. Hoping to make a few more over the Summer.

  138. I love a Nine Patch because I think an Irish Chain is the most beautiful pattern of all. Furthermore, a nine patch can be combined with other blocks to make so many secondary patterns.

  139. I love the simplicity of a nine patch block with all it’s endless combinations as squares are cut to be triangles and are re-cut and stitched and re-cut and restitched. Sweet lolly colours of threads just make me so happy!

  140. 12 weight? Ohhhhh, I would love to win this! The colors are so smooth and I can already feel myself wanting to touch it.

  141. My block is the log cabin because it is the first block I learned and I made a few wallhangings with it.

  142. My favorite is the Dresden Plate. But, I am about to attempt my first applique quilt and NEED this beautiful set of threads.

  143. My favorite traditional block is the ohio star, hands down. You can do so much with it and it just makes me happy. Thanks for the chance to win!

  144. Just starting to quilt so I only know about the star quilt. Would love to experiment with other patterns and this thread would give me that opportunity.

  145. I love the Cathedral Window! And the Log Cabin! And the Nine Patch! And any Star pattern! Thank you for this opportunity! I love your thread!

  146. I am a fan of the Jacob’s Ladder block. There are so many ways to arrange those blocks and so many ways to colorize it. The options are endless.

  147. I love the 54/40 or fight star block. Love the quirky name, love the historical significance, just love everything about it! 🙂
