Welcome back to 2015 Quilt Market Part 2! There is never enough space to put the grandness of Quilt Market into one post. Market needs to be at least two to three days longer ( and two posts longer) to be able to process at least half of what is happening or what has happened! Hoping you enjoy Part 2 of Market!
There is never a lack of activities for shops at Market! On the day prior to Market officially opening, there are Schoolhouses. Schoolhouses are designed to educate and inspire shops to help their customers to find the right tools, fabrics and knowledge for every project!
Aurifil’s Schoolhouses were by different areas of the quilting industry. Fabric house, Island Batik, designers Wendy Sheppard and Jinny Beyer, and Alex Veronelli.
The first was Island Batik Fabrics with their lovely new collections! The one being shown is Tinsel! Each of the four newest fabric collections has an Aurifil thread collection to match! Perfect colors for every one!
Wendy Sheppard from Ivory Spring was the Second in the series. Wendy is a scientist turned quilter. She has been featured in just about every quilting magazine on the planet with her beautiful quilts that are all quilted on her domestic home machine! Wendy has a new Aurifil Collection and explained how she came to use Aurifil 50wt and why she believes it is the perfect choice for all quilters for it’s strength and beauty!
Wendy’s stunning quilt was on display in the Aurifil booth during Market and will be going on tour with Alex for his lectures in Aurifil Quilt Shops, Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this beauty! Also, keep on the lookout for a possible pattern for this beauty!
The talented Jinny Beyer was in the schoolhouse next! Jinny’s insightful lecture was about thread weight uses. With so many weights to choose from, how do you know what is the correct one for your project? Jinny shared what she uses and why.
Alex assisted her by holding up one of her quilts as an example.
Alex was the final lecture for the day. The topic of his discussion was the overwhelmingly popular Aurifil lectures. This lecture is available only to Aurifil shops. This exciting lecture is approximately 90 minutes of engaging video that takes you behind the scenes of the Aurifil factory, inside the research and development of the thread, a short lecture about the recommended uses and care for the threads, then concludes with an array of stunning artworks from the industries top designers. Alex explained how the program works, why it is so popular and added in that there are gifts and giveaways of Aurifil at every session! What is not to love?
Time to walk the Quilt Market floor! It is always exciting to see the upcoming collections from the various designers and fabric houses! It never ceases to be amazing that each booth is created only for the few days of the show. These displays are a labor of love a true act of passion by their creators!
Joanna Figueroa from Fig Tree &Co. Is always prepared with something new and fresh for Moda Fabrics! She is really a sweetheart to boot!
She had a little something unexpected and special in her booth…WOOL and Aurifil floss to match! This is something completely new and will be coming to a shop near you soon! Very thrilling!
The new kid on the Moda block is artist, architect, and all around great dancer LUKE Haynes! This is Luke’s first fabric collection. It is appropriately named Dapper and has a modern edgy feel using traditional herringbone and bold colors.
Sandy Gervias is also in the Moda family and has this sweet new collection Refresh.
Loving the Aurifil spools as flower vases!
There was a real showstopper in Michel Miller Fabrics! Into The Deep by Patty Sloniger was filled with rich colors making the mind dance!
The dress was absolutely sublime!
Tula Pink never fails with her daring designs for Free Spirit!
Darlene Zimmerman never fails to entertain the creative juices in her Robert Kaufman booth! There is always something special and vintage that makes you want to stay awhile and see what else may turn up. Morningside Farm will be available in 2016!
Maureen Cracknell had an explosion of fabulous with all of the details in her booth for Art Gallery Fabrics and her collection Fleet and Flourish!
Tim Holtz had on display his personal collection of antique items that inspire his own personal designs.
The very popular Mendocino by Heather Ross is being reprinted by Windham Fabrics! These lovely fabrics are sprinkled with life from the ocean including mermaids.
The final addition for today is Mary Fons‘s collection with Springs Creative Small Wonders.
Alex was happy to welcome Mary into the fabric world and into the Aurifil family!
Hope you will come back tomorrow for even more from Quilt Market!
Thanks for sharing: I loved all the pics! And will you be posting a list of the quilt stores that will be hosting the Aurifil Thread seminars? We don’t have a local quilt shop to ask to do it, so a list would be wonderful so I could see what store is closest to me. Thanks!! I’m in Healdsburg, Calf, by the way.
Hi Helen, Thank you so much for visiting. Alex’s lecture schedule is available on his Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/alexveronelli) or, if there are numerous engagements, they will be announced here on the blog about three weeks in advance.
