SplendidSampler50

What a delight it’s been to see all of the amazing blocks sewn for The Splendid Sampler week after week. It’s hard to believe that we’re already at the halfway point! Block #50, Flights of Fancy by Joanna Figueroa, was released just yesterday and we’ve already seen a flood of beauty as a result;). This magnificent Sew Along has been presented by Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson, and we are endlessly grateful. They’ve inspired thousands of quilters, worldwide, to step outside of comfort zones, experiment with new techniques, collaborate and share with new friends, and contribute to something that is both inspiring and educational. We are thrilled to be a part of the Block 50 celebration and couldn’t help but use today’s post as a showcase of blocks. Our last showcase ended with block #36, so we’ll start with #37 and run from there!

Once you’re done ooooh-ing and ahhhh-ing over all of the block beauty, don’t miss your chance to enter-to-win a Large Perfect Box of Colors Collection by Pat Sloan for Aurifil.

  1. Pencils is my favourite block so fare. Precise piecing, beautiful colors, fabulous result.

  2. What imagination quilters have to design all these blocks. Geta Grama is inspiring. Summer’s Gift is my favorite so far.

  3. #42 Pencils is my favorite so far. As a teacher, it’s perfect for using on so many things we can use in the classroom!

  4. My favorites are all of them so far, but, to pick one that stands out for me is block 17 Family of Stars by Kimberly Jolly.

  5. My favorite block so far was the 5 hearts. It was early on, but I used fabric for each heart to represent family members who have passed (some recent) and including them in this quilt made it very personal and I have decided that this is going to be an “all about me” quilt that I can treasure forever.

  6. Stitch in the Garden, Sewing Nut, and Pincushion Love are favorites of mine. However, they are all Fantastic!!!!!

  7. I think my favorite block has been whimsy. I love the crazy quilt look to it. I want to do a whole quilt from it.

  8. I am partial to pieced blocks so 37, 46 and 50 are among my favorites. Impossible to choose just one.

  9. I’m loving all the sewing theme blocks. My favorite sew far is Block #44 — Stitch in the Garden by Gail Pan which beautifully combines stitching motifs and an adorable bird.

  10. I won’t say I love every block I made, but it would be imposible to choose only one as most favorite!!

  11. My favorite block was “Snug as a Bug”. Reminded me of my son under the covers with his animals. Loved the appliqué and embroidery.

  12. What a hard choice! All the blocks are wonderful. But, since I love hand embroidery and applique, for now I’ll go with Block #7, “Snug as a Bug.” Thanks for the giveaway.

  13. The Splendid Sampler is such a learning experience for me, I am excited every Sunday and Thursday to get the new pattern. I have not tried the paper piecing yet I am hoping it is similar to making a dress with a pattern.

  14. So hard to choose. Favorite so far, Snug as a Bug. Such a cute design and I love hand embroidery.

  15. This question is too hard! I think “Snug as a Bug” is my favorite, or at least a close contender. Thank you for choosing such talented designers who clearly care about this project and are giving it their all.

  16. Wow, these blocks are all so unique. I like the embroidery ones the best…but piecing is good so I like those also and oh don’t forget the PP ones….as you can see, I like them all 🙂

  17. I really like the flip flop block for it’s ease of accomplishing, Plus I am going to make a full to queen size for a reception gift!

  18. This sew-a-long has been so much fun, I’m behind. Life gets in the way. But I love how the whole thing pushes my creativity. Thank you to all of you!

  44. My favorite is block #1, Hearts Aflutter, it really inspired me to take part in this wonderful journey.

  45. I just love the “Whim” blocks and the fabrics that were used for them. But oh my all the blocks are so wonderful. thanks for sharing…

  65. Amazingly for me I just loved making block 36 with all the tiny hexagons. I even embroidered some flowers on just a few of the blocks..

  66. My favorite so far has to be the Measure Twice block. It has special meaning for me because as a single mom I taught my son wood working skills. Every spring we would have a building project and we would lay things out and look at each other and say “remember, measure twice, cut once”. They are very good memories.

  67. My favorite block to day is…gosh that is a tough question. I loved each one as I made it and fell in love with others with the final product. I think block 6, focal point. I was so pleased with the block – the points and colors. I was already seeing improvement in my skills just 6 blocks in.

My favorite is the pencils from Jane Davison (nr. 44), you can do al lot with them besides a quilt block. De one I enjoyed most is Stitch in the garden from Gail Pan (nr. 42) because of the huge creativity the members displayed with making this block. Awesome.

  69. Thanks so much for holding this awesome giveaway!!

As for my favorite block so far, it’s a little tough to answer that as I’ve only just started… I finished Block 1 tonight, so I guess right now my favorite would have to be Hearts A Flutter!! 😉

  81. Splendid Sample has so many blocks that choosing one block as my favorite would be so difficult. But, so far, I do love Summer Flip Floppin block and many of the embroidery blocks. Thank you for the thread giveaway. I love Aurifil thread and I saw the CEO of your company when he visited Pine Needles Quilt and Sew in Rochester, MN. I learned so much that day. So glad I had that opportunity.

  82. I am loving the whole idea, but I think my favourite block has to be the summer flip flopping, as I get to use New Zealand themed fabrics for this.

    1. oh dear, some how my autofil has mucked up my email address on my last comment, but my favourite block is Summer Flip Flopping as I get to use New Zealand themed fabrics for the elements of the block

  83. I love the embroidery blocks and the paperpiecing blocks. I love them all 😊The hexagon blocks was a challenge but also a great one! Thanks for the chance.

  84. I am anxious to get started on the blocks I just bought my fabric, I have never did paper piecing so not sure how to do it, will need to get a book to learn how it is done. Splendid Sampler is so exciting with so many different blocks. I would love to be the lucky winner of the thread.

  85. https://www.instagram.com/p/BIuYaLTBqUU/?tagged=thesplendidsampler I chose this picture to depict my favorite block–although it isn’t a single block–because I can’t choose a single block. It is the journey of going through each block even if going through each one as a viral quiltathon at the moment. I love seeing everyone’s work. I love collecting the blocks. I love “meeting” new people through the process. I love learning the new techniques. There isn’t just a “one” block, “one thing” to love about this. So this has to be a “whole deal” thing for me.

  86. I don’t really have a favorite as there are so many adorable blocks. I really like the ones that have embroidery on them.
