Aurifil for AGF: Bonnie Christine

We’re here for our final day of week 1 of our Aurifil for AGF blog series! Next week, we’ll be introducing you to more of the talented designers of Art Gallery Fabrics, to herald their work, and shine a light on their fabulous thread collections. Back in 2015, we launched Aurifil thread boxes to match with the identity of each Art Gallery Fabrics designer. The best thing about this is that the threads aren’t specific to one fabric collection but rather were selected to match a designer’s signature palette. With that in mind, these collections work just as well with the brand new fabric collections as they did with those that released back in 2015. Pretty amazing, right? We hope you enjoy hearing more about these fabulous women AND don’t miss our super sweet giveaway!

Today, we meet Bonnie Christine of Going Home to Roost! Her Going Home to Roost Essentials collection comes in both Large and Small boxes, offering our extremely versatile 50wt thread in a wonderfully warm array of colors. Going Home to Roost Essentials provides the perfect colors for use with any of Bonnie Christine’s Art Gallery Fabrics collections, including her upcoming Lambkin collection, Wonderful Things, Hello Ollie, and Forest Floor. We love following along with Bonnie Christine’s home adventures on Instagram as she and her family build a farmhouse and make a home in the woods in North Carolina.

INTERVIEW
What first drew you to to the world of sewing and quilting?

I grew up spending lots of time in my momma’s quilt shop which fostered my love for textiles and sewing. I can remember having craft days with her and making little dolls and skirts. I’m so grateful for having been introduced to the world of fabric at such an early age!

@goinghometoroost

Can you tell us a bit about your background?
Shortly after graduating from Business School and marrying my sweetheart, I fell in love with the world of design. Focused on making my dream a reality, I decided to set out and learn it on my own. In 2010, there was not a lot of info for aspiring surface pattern designers, which is one reason I’m so passionate about teaching today! About 2 years later, I connected with Art Gallery Fabrics and have been designing ever since.

How did you first make the connection with Art Gallery Fabrics and what does it mean to you to be part of the AGF family?
I connected with Art Gallery Fabrics at Fall Quilt Market in 2012. I met with Pat Bravo and immediately felt that we were kindred spirits. I remember hearing her talk about my work and feeling like she understood exactly who I was as an artist. She welcomed me into the family, and it’s been the most amazing experience of my life. I love being a part of the family!

Tell us about your latest collections with Art Gallery. What inspired the designs?
My upcoming collection is called “Lambkin” (coming this August) and it was inspired by the complete adoration I have for my two littles, Bear & Ollie. The collection tells both a majestic, playful story for boys and a more delicate, sweet story for girls.

Do you have a favorite project or projects made with each collection?
I always end up with a few favorites! They are usually something made for my children. A soft blanket, cute romper or playful animal.

@goinghometoroost

When did you first discover Aurifil threads and what do you love most about them?
For as long as I can remember, Aurifil has always been our ‘go-to’ thread. It’s luxurious, strong and beautiful!

@goinghometoroost

Can you tell us a bit more about your signature Aurifil collection — why did you select the colors and the weights that you did?
My collection, “Going Home to Roost” is named after my blog and is filled with pretty pastels that I consider to be neutrals. Greys, golds, blush pinks and creams bring a subtle sophistication to the projects I use them on. I chose the 50 weight so that it can be used for regular sewing projects and quilts alike.

What’s coming up next for you — what can we look forward to?
I’m really excited about some new collections I have coming out, as well as a new design course coming soon. I also have some amazing things planned for the Roost Tribe, a creative membership I run through my website. The best way to stay up to date on everything is by following along over on Instagram (@goinghometoroost). I love connecting with everyone there!
