We absolutely loved taking part in the collaborative Just in Time promotion hosted by Island Batik this year. The promotion is the second in our prized partnership with NY Times Best-Selling Author Marie Bostwick, Deb Tucker of Deb Tucker’s Sudio 180 Design, & Jackie Kunkel of Canton Village Quilt Works. We just love working with these amazing women, and while we can’t speak for the fine folks at Island Batik, we feel confident in saying that our two companies are incredibly honored to have these continued opportunities.

The promotion pulls together a super line up of products:

Marie has a lifelong love of quilting and loves finding ways to connect that love with her passion for writing and story-telling. She joined forces with Deb Tucker to take it all to the next level. For each of Marie’s new books, Deb designs a companion pattern that picks up on a character or theme from the book. For Just in Time, Deb designed and created the New Beginnings Quilt Pattern. The design is inspired by the overall theme of the book and the many life transitions experienced by the book’s rich characters.

JUST IN TIME
Fifteen years ago, Grace Saunders vowed to take her beloved husband for better or worse. Now she’s coming to terms with difficult choices as she crafts a memory quilt from scraps of their life together—a life torn to shreds by an accident that has left him in a coma. Enduring months of limbo, Grace is at least not alone.

Nan has been widowed for twenty years, but now, with her children grown, her home feels painfully empty. Even the company of her golden retriever, Blixen, and a series of other rescue dogs, can’t fill the void. Then there’s Monica, a feisty woman with a biting wit who’s reeling following her husband’s death—and the revelation of his infidelity.

As for Grace, a chance evening with a man she barely knows brings a glimmer of joy she hasn’t felt since the tragedy—along with feelings of turmoil and guilt. But her struggle to cope will force all three women to face their fears, share their deepest secrets—and lean on one another as they move from grief and isolation to hope, and a second chance at happiness…

ALL A FLUTTER
Jackie Kunkel’s latest collection (by Kathy Engle for Island Batik) is a stunning collection of pinks, purples, and turquoise. In addition to the Just in Time promotion, Jackie put together a gorgeous range of quilts to showcase this lovely line. To learn more about these patterns, check out Jackie’s website here.

  1. I love to work with batiks because of the quality of the fabrics, such a lovely hand. I also love the colours and patterns they are printed in.

  2. I like working with batiks because they hold a crisp crease and they blend so beautifully together.

  3. I like batiks for their saturated colors, feel, and designs. They’re especially good for needle-turn applique — not much raveling! Thanks for the giveaway.

  4. I love the beautiful colors in batiks–I buy them even when I don’t have an “assignment” yet for them–just b/c the colors & tones are stunning! 🙂

  5. I love the watery quality that batiks give to any quilt. (Yes, I mix them with other fabrics after prewashing all of them.) The undulating colors speak to me.

  6. You can use either side of the batik fabrics depending on how saturated you want the fabric to be.

  7. I love the color range of batiks. I have made several quilts using batons. Love them, and I love Aurifil Thread. It is the best.

  8. Batiks are my favorites, especially for hand appliqué. I hear people say it’s hard to appliqué, and I totally disagree! Island Batiks and Aurifil Thread are a natural pairing. Thanks so much for previews of wonderful things going on between the companies.

  9. Love the vibrant colors and the fact there is no right or wrong side. Batiks go with everything!

  10. I love working with batiks because I love seeing how the different colours go together and complement each other

  11. My favorite thing about batiks is all the different colors that you can see in one piece of fabric
