We absolutely love that Jemima Flendt of Tied with a Ribbon asked us to be a part of her blog tour, celebrating Quilt Big, her new book with The Quilting Company / F+W Media. Jemima had already been working with us as an Aurifil Artisan for a year when she first came to us with the idea of creating a thread collection to coordinate with her book.
We jumped at the chance, knowing that everything that Jemima does is full of beauty and class. We’ve just loved the collaboration and featured the partnership on our blog back in November. We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to feature it once again!
Quilt Big is a stunning gallery of quilts, featuring 22 supersized versions of blocks that you know and love — Log Cabin, Flying Geese, Indian Star, Home Treasure, and more. Jemima shares step-by-step directions for creating each block and gives instructions for 17 different patchwork projects in which to use them. These blocks are perfect for showcasing large scale prints, an opportunity we don’t often have in quilting.

Hi everyone! I was so excited when I first learned about Jemima’s Quilt Big book, I’ve always loved traditional quilts and patterns that have a slight modern twist, so it was a no brainer to pre-order this book when it became available last year!
For my project I decided to make the Mosaic Quilt using various blue fat quarters from my fabric stash. My background is a graph paper basic print by Lori Holt from a few years ago, and then I used various prints by Cotton+Steel, Christopher Thompson, Valori Wells, Christa Watson, Lizzy House, and Alison Glass.
My original plan for this quilt was to make a simple four block baby quilt for my two year old, but then I just kept pulling more fabrics from my stash. Eventually I pulled and cut enough to make the full quilt, so my timeline of having it finished by today is slightly off. 😉
I am loving how this quilt is coming together and I’m itching to get it finished! The effect of having the negative and positive blocks using the background fabric is such a simple way to make the same block design look so different. <3

Jemima Flendt has been around fabrics and crafts for as long as she can remember. Her grandmother used to teach her to crochet and her mum was always making at her sewing machine. She grew up to love and be inspired by all things fabric, textiles, buttons, ribbons, and embellishments.
Jemima started quilting when she was about 16 – making quilts from leftover scraps from her mum’s sewing projects. She was quickly hooked and then started to take classes to learn all about different quilting techniques and skills.
Today, she designs and creates Quilt and Sewing Patterns for her label Tied with a Ribbon. They are distributed throughout Australia and Internationally. Her first book, Weekend Quilting,was published in 2017 and her second book, Quilt Big, will be available in stores in December 2018. She teaches workshops and classes in Quilting and is very passionate about introducing people to quilting and sewing. Jemima contributes regularly to a large number of Publications and Magazines throughout the world and has developed a series of Online Courses published through The Quilting Company.
