Rotary Cutter Specialty Blades (Pinking, Scallop, Wave) & Aurifloss
This month, we are thrilled to introduce you to Isabelle and Joanne. They knocked their projects out of the park and are both offering free tutorials on their blogs. Enjoy!!
Hello, everyone! My name is Isabelle Selak of South Bay Bella Studio. I’m so excited to share my latest project with you.
I use Aurifil products in all of my projects, and I recently began using Olfa products just as frequently. The two products I’m sharing with you today – Aurifloss and the Olfa pinking blade – were new to me at the start of this project, but I have added them to my arsenal of must-have quilting and sewing tools. Aurifloss is available in 270 colors, and with six strands to pull from, you are sure to find just the perfect weight. The pinking blade in the Olfa rotary cutter is an easy-to-use alternative to pinking shears, convenient for use in a number of projects.
Olfa cutting mats and rotary cutters are essential to my work. However, their specialty blades are a new addition to my list of must-have tools. The pinking blade in the 45mm rotary cutter was a quick and effective way to trim my assembled cushion cover to reduce the bulk before turning it right side out. I can only imagine the uses for it – applique, bag making, quilting…the list goes on!

Spring is just starting to peek through the clouds here, so I’ve got bright, crisp projects like this Stripe Dash cushion cover on my mind. The simple shapes and lines really allow the colors of the fabrics and Aurifloss to shine. Three strands of Aurifloss was the perfect weight for my first hand quilting project.
The Stripe Dash cushion cover is a quick project that uses a few shades of one color with a background fabric, or you can mix it up and use a few prints to make this variation of the traditional churn dash block. You can find a full tutorial for this project on my blog at South Bay Bella Studio.
Thanks so much, Isabelle! We are head over heels for this cushion! ❤
