Today we are thrilled to have Aurifil Artisan Laura Cunningham at the Auribuzz blog to share all about her new pattern, the Wee Travel Pal. It is an absolutely darling sewing notions organizer that is perfect for stitching on the go! Take it away Laura!
Hello everyone! My name is Laura Cunningham and I am so excited to share my latest pattern and recent Aurifil collaboration with you.
Only a couple days ago, I released my latest pattern, the Wee Travel Pal. A little pouch for all the sewing notions you might need when away from your sewing machine. For your EPP, embroidery, quilting or your sewing notions and, of course, all the Aurifil thread you need when you’re on the go.
A couple weeks ago, I was asked to participate in a showcase with Aurifil, Free Spirit Fabrics, Anna Maria Horner and some of the 2018 Aurifil Artisans. We were each sent three Fat Quarters of Anna Maria’s Passionflower Line and a coordinated thread of our favourite weight. These are the prints I received, in the following picture, alongside Aurifil 12wt in Pewter (2630). Not my usual colours you might think, but the depth of Passionflower, just like all prints by Anna Maria Horner, is amazing – so rich, deep and full of mystery.
Three Fat Quarters and a corresponding solid were plenty to finish this pouch. I also used Aurifil Light Grey (5021) and Grey (2605) in 50wt for the topstitching, I really love the end result.
The outside panel is hand-quilted using Aurifil 12wt in Pewter and I love the subtle detail it brings.
Thank you Laura for sharing this wonderful new pattern with us! We are excited that Laura is generously giving away a copy of this pattern, and we are including a prize pack of thread as well! Click HERE to enter the giveaway.
Laura is an indie sewing pattern designer and regular contributor to Love, Patchwork and Quilting Magazine. For her, it’s normally all about nifty, little pouches with a modern twist, that are easy to make in no time. Instant gratification guaranteed. But she also has a deep love for improv and hand quilting, especially when it includes a lot of pink!
