We were so thrilled to meet Designer & Artist Stacie Bloomfield of Gingiber last year. We’ve been following along with her for ages, entranced by her illustrations, encouraged by her inspirational images, and in awe of her impeccable style.
Stacie has been designing fabric for Moda for 3 years and in that time, she has created quite a name for herself. She was even selected as one of two designers for the 2019 Moda Tea Towels!

We love her designs and are particularly drawn to her panel fabrics which offer large scale fussy cutting opportunities in addition to the option to create stand along illustrated minis and pillows. The panels are perfect for beginners — empowering us to create something beautiful without getting too complicated;).
When Stacie mentioned that she’d love to put together a designer thread box, we knew we had to make it happen. We’re lucky that she has a go-to color palette, so while her new box, Gingiber’s Perfect Pairing, coordinates perfectly with her latest Moda release, Bramble, it’s also a wonderful partner for her past collections, including Thicket, Farm Fresh, Merriment, and Catnip! The box truly is your go-to for every thread you’ll need to work with any of Stacie’s fabrics!
It’s been super exciting to follow along with her recently, as she just launched a local shop and education space in her hometown of Springdale, Arkansas. If you’re in the area, or have plans to visit Arkansas, you’ll want to make this space a destination! It’s every bit as gorgeous and alluring as Stacie’s perfectly arranged home (check out her Design Sponge home tour right here).

We hope you’ll have fun with this collection! We’re certainly daydreaming about all of the things we could make, inspired by Stacie’s delightful style!

GETTING TO KNOW STACIE
You dove into this amazing world of textiles head first about 3 years ago when you signed with Moda. What was that transition like and what do you love most about the process of designing fabric. How does it fit in with the rest of your business plan?
I seem to always dive into things and learn as I go. Fabric design was the same way! I had literally just learned how to created a repeat pattern a month before signing with Moda! Once Moda said yes to taking me on, I felt like I had been transported to a whole new world with its own language and customs! My first quilt market I literally showed up only having sewn a few pillows and an apron! I remember people coming up to me asking me all sorts of quilting questions and I had no idea how to answer! I quickly realized that I had to jump in and catch up or I would miss out on all that the quilting world had to offer! Now I design quilts and work with pattern writers, I have written an embroidery book, and I am trying to always find ways to further explore the quilting world. Fabric design and selling notions and patterns has become a huge part of my business plan. My customer base has grown tremendously since signing with Moda. Truly, becoming a textile designer when I did was perfect timing for me and Gingiber.

What do you love most about working with Moda?
Moda is SO AMAZING to work with. They treat their designers incredibly well. Moda is solid and has such a great reputation in the industry. I feel completely at home with Moda, my fellow designers, and every employee of United Notions. Going to Quilt Market 2 times a year feels like a family reunion of sorts! I love LOVE being a part of the Moda family.
What is the inspiration behind your new fabric collection, Bramble, and when can we find it in stores?
Bramble is inspired by woodland creatures (which is one of my favorite things to draw): Hedgehogs, deer, raccoons and squirrels! I LOVE creating background fabrics that play nice with other more motif heavy patterns, so this collection is heavily focused on those delightful texture heavy blenders.
Much of my artwork features pen and ink detail work that is visually interesting and sets my artwork apart. Bramble is a red, white, black and gray color story. I think this collection is just perfect for a little boy’s nursery, but it isn’t overly childish. As always, Bramble has some adorable animal panels that are useful for a variety of sewing projects! Bramble hits stores this fall.
Do you have a favorite project using the collection?
I made myself a delightful tunic top from the double gauze hedgehog fabric! It is so soft and cozy!
When did you first discover Aurifil thread and what do you love most about it?
I love Aurifil and the incredibly high quality of their products. There are so many perfect colors to choose from that work just perfectly with Moda’s Bella Solids! Aurifil, like Moda, has a reputation for being the best in the industry. My quilting customers use Aurifil thread!
Tell us more about the colors in you new Aurifil collection and how it fits in with your overall creative vision.
My collection, called “Perfect Pairings”, is a lovely and versatile selection of reds, grays, blacks, blues, whites, and a pop of yellow for good measure! I wanted to select colors that would work perfectly with any of my past fabric collections for Moda Fabrics, but are also useful colors for any sewing project! I’ve showed the collection to my customers and they all agree that a collection like “Perfect Pairings” is just what they need!
Your new studio and workshop space looks amazing! What can we look forward to seeing there?
Thank you! My new studio, affectionately called “The Workshop” has an adorable storefront in the front of the building where I carry the full line of my stationery and gift products, as well as my fabric from Moda. I’ve also brought in a variety of well curated crafting and sewing notions and DIY projects like embroidery kits, knitting supplies, and pillow kits. In the workshop room we are hosting weekly classes where we teach a variety of mediums from watercolor to block printing, from embroidery classes to hand sewing. I am so excited to have this space! Customers and members of my town in Springdale, AR can come into the workshop, learn a new craft, and truly make something beautiful together. I am hoping to help build a creative community!

Creative Social Retreat info:
I am also a founding member of a creative retreat called “The Creative Social Retreat“. The Creative Social happened unintentionally. In early 2018, five artist friends were feeling the need to retreat and fill a couple days with creativity and art. We gathered at a home in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, toting art supplies, a little wine and loose plans for the weekend. Our goal was simply to create. To step out of our normal routine for a little extra space and to spend time with friends. But during the weekend, we did so much more. We had soulful conversations about life and business. We chatted until 2:00 in the morning. We connected. We walked away from the weekend feeling REJUVENATED. Not only did we make art, we made plans to recreate this escape and share it with you. We had so much fun, shared stories, gained new perspectives, and by the end, we knew we had to spread this invigorating feeling with as many people as possible.
Our next retreat is in June in Breckenridge, Colorado! We have 2 seats still available! We will gather to nurture our creative sides and our desire to connect with fellow humans. There will be five different artist-led workshops, meaningful conversations, and a chance to make new friends. I teach block-printing and it is truly the most fun class!

ABOUT STACIE
Stacie Bloomfield is the founder of the company Gingiber, based in Springdale Arkansas. She is an illustrator and printmaker who sells prints, stationery, fabric, and homewares in over 350 retail outlets around the country. She has collaborated with many retailers, including West Elm, Brooklyn Industries, The Land of Nod (now Crate & Kids), The Novogratz, and has been featured on Design Sponge, Martha Stewart.com, and others. Stacie studied graphic design and fine arts while at university, and there she fell in love with illustration and printmaking. Stacie married her high school sweetheart, Nathan, during her junior year of college, and as soon as they both graduated they started a family. It was after the birth of Stacie’s first child, Violet, that she found her voice as an illustrator. She began creating artwork for her daugther’s nursery, and soon thereafter began selling her original work on Etsy under the name “Gingiber.” Within 2 years Stacie was selected as the “Featured Seller” at Etsy and began to focus all of her professional attention on her growing illustration company. Stacie resides in Springdale, Arkansas with her husband, Nathan, three children, Violet, Lucy, and Dexter, and their obedience school dropout dog named Rosie. She is sought after for her original designs that feature bold, vibrant colors and unexpected patterns. Gingiber has a teeny sentimental streak and a healthy obsession with vintage children’s book illustrations and stories you never quite outgrow.
