Aurifil Artisan Showcase Sunday – Magical Minis

Welcome to another installment of our Aurifil Artisan Showcase Sunday! This year, we have challenged the Artisans with a new objective every month. For August, we partnered with Paintbrush Studio Fabrics, who graciously sent samples from their PBS trending colors of the year to a handful of our Artisans.

Artisans were provided with a coordinating thread and challenged to create a whole cloth quilt. We’re thrilled to share some of these spectacular minis with you here today.

{Click the artisan’s name below for more details on each of their projects}

Steph Skardal – Mini whole cloth quilt, mixing domestic machine and hand quilting.

Ange Hamilton – I used the variegated 12wt thread (3840) to make mini mini quilts. With the largest mini measuring 7 x 7 inches I used patterns inspired by Sedef Imers book Zakka Home and Aneela Hoey’s book Stitch & Sew. I love the variation the variegated thread provides across all three minis.

Laura Piland – Fall “Give Thanks” whole cloth mini quilt

Sherry Shish – Wholecloth Mini Quilt. Design with HQ Prostitcher designs and Quilted on my Amara Longarm.

Cheryl Brickey – Wisteria mini whole cloth quilt using different free motion quilting motifs in triangle shaped areas.

Cassandra Ireland Beaver – Circular whole cloth mini quilt featuring trapunto in an Art Nouveau style

Laura Cunningham – I made a little improv wallhanging, hand quilted using Aurifil 12wt. For the improv part I used my pattern “Improv Piecing” to fussy cut the little Crafty Chloe print in the centre. I painted locally found lovely driftwood and added some glitter, my son loves it.

Wendy Welsh – Whole cloth cushion featuring hand quilting

HollyAnne Knight – This whimsical whole cloth is inspired by my love of coffee and the gorgeous color of the Painter’s Palette Solid. I love showing my free motion quilting students how to be a bit playful with their stitching, especially if they’re still a bit nervous.

Shannon Fraser – Wholecloth Mini handquilted with 12wt and extra batting to up the quilty texture.

Lisa Hoffman Maurer – Whole cloth mini quilt

Lucy Brennan – Wholecloth hand quilted quilt inspired by the artist Keith Haring.

Kerry Pratt Goulder – Whole Cloth Pillow with 12wt PomPoms.

Isabelle Selak – Wholecloth Mini handquilted with 12wt and extra batting to up the quilty texture.

Sarah Goer – Sarah used three weights of pink Aurifil to quilt her Painter’s Palette coral wholecloth mini. Her quilt features organic curve walking foot quilting with 12wt, free motion fillers with 40wt, and machine binding with 50wt thread.

Daisy Aschehoug – Paintbrush Studios wholecloth quilt challenge

Krista Hennebury –  Machine stitched sashiko table runner. I’m stitching with #aurifil12wt in the bobbin, #aurifil50wt in the top and a 4.0 stitch length on my #juki.

So much gorgeous whole cloth quilt inspiration! How would you showcase fabric & thread in a whole cloth mini?
