We can hardly believe that it is the last day of August! It seems like just yesterday that Summer had begun, yet here we are on the precipice of Fall. 🍂 Today we are excited to share the next showcase post for our 2020 – 2021 team of Aurifil Artisans! Our theme for August was Cross-Stitch & Embroidery featuring Aurifloss and Aurifil 12wt thread. We are so excited to share the projects our Artisans created using these two versatile weights.

Audrey Esarey – “For the August embroidery challenge, I chose to use my Watercolor Quilt pattern to inspire my project. I stitched a minimalist outline version using 10 shades of Aurifil 12 wt. thread.”
Lauren Wright from Molly and Mama – “Beautiful floss calls for a beautiful embroidery design. Introducing a free floral wreath embroidery pattern, designed especially for beginners by Molly and Mama.”
Sarah Ruiz – “The reds and yellows of the Aurifloss stand out against the dark background and make Texas really glow! This was such a fun project, and I was so happy with the colors and quality of the thread. It may have been my first time using Aurifloss, but it definitely won’t be the last.”
Lucy Brennan – “Lucy’s current cross stitch project for the year is coming along well, “Love Thy Neighbour”, pattern by Modern Folk Embroidery. Stitched with two strand of Aurifloss in a bright happy colour palette, this is a cheery sampler full of beautiful Quaker style floral motifs.”
Laurel– “Mountain Embroidery Thread Painting with Aurifil Floss”
Jen Belnap – “Fall Rainbow- to celebrate the beauty after the storm.”
Henrik MĂĽller – “The challenge for August was hand embroidery. I have not done it for 30 years. Using Aurifloss I created an embroidery version of the Artisan 2020 logo.”

Jamie – “Took this month’s challenge as an opportunity to get my cross stitch on and experiment with Aurifil Cotton Floss. While this may be the first cross stitch project I’ve ever finished, I’m feeling so good about how it turned out that it certainly won’t be my last! “
Eliane Bergmann – “This month I used Aurifloss and wool felt to create hand-embroidered patches to use in my visible mending efforts. These patches are a great way to add interest to a garment that has a stain or a hole. I used one of my patches to mend a jean jacket with a few holes.”
Allie McCathren – “I chose to do something monochrome, using 12wt #aurifilthread in a deep blue (2735). I love how easy it is to work with – I have no idea how many French knots are in this piece, but they were no trouble to make. “
Steph Skardal – “In this project, I paired Aurifloss with ice dyed and watercolor to fabric pieces for a nice little wall display.”
Jennie Pickett – “A fun project for my daughter, embroidering lazy daisy flowers on a ready-made jean jacket. The unique touch makes it special and fun to wear.”
Madeline Bonner – “This has been a fantastic challenge and I have enjoyed every stitch! I have loved using the 12 weight thread. The variegated threads provide amazing colour combinations. I also used a selection of Aurifloss which gave great textural qualities to my French Knots. My favourite colours this month are 4652 3817 and 4650.”
Lucy Engels – “After a successful cross stitch last year I felt the need to up the ante and work from my own design this year. There is a possibility I completely underestimated how long this design would take… It’s a cross-stitch rendering of my Naive Melody quilt. I’m using mostly 12wt with some Aurifloss split into three strands. And like the original quilt, it may take me 100 days to complete!”
Amy Ball – “I used cotton 12wt to cross stitch a mini design based on my Summer Braids quilt pattern.”
Kathy Ross – “Hand Embroidered pumped up Kicks! Really enjoyed the meditative properties of hand embroidery on this challenge. It forced me to slow down and really enjoy the making. Also, Aurifloss is quite simply the bomb!! I’m now hooked and embellishing half my wardrobe!”
Amista Baker – “Modern hand embroidery using 12 weight Aurifil in various shades. This project was a stress reliever for me this month and I allowed myself to stitch when it felt right and not pre-plan or worry about choices.”
We hope that our artisans have inspired you to try your hand at embroidery or cross-stitching! Now more than ever is a wonderful time to slow down and work on a bit of meditative hand stitching. ❤
