Couldn’t we all use an extra burst of sunshine? A glimpse of the rainbow appearing through the clouds… A sweet little reminder that love is all around and kindness is everything? Today, we’re getting that sparkling image by way of one of Moda Fabric‘s newest fabric designers, the iconic actress Maureen McCormick. Her debut collection inspired by the funky vibe of her 1970s stint as Marcia Brady is now hitting stores and it’s just the spark we needed.
The gold, aqua, pink, and orange florals in A Blooming Bunch pack a groovy punch. “I’ve been a huge fan of Moda for a long time,” says Maureen. “We thought it would be fun to do a line that’s fresh and very happy.” The cheerful fabric is perfect for quilts, bags, clothing, home dec, and more. Read more about Maureen and her crafty inspirations right HERE on Moda’s blog.
In prepping for the fabric release, Moda had a slew of ideas for quilts and they made several, but when our mutual (epic & incredibly creative) sweet friend, Susan Ache (@yardgrl60), sent them pictures of the Flower Girl blocks she was making, they knew they had to do something special.
Enter the #modabloomingflowerqal featuring Camille Roskelley’s Flower Girl pattern + Maureen’s A Blooming Bunch Fabrics for Moda + Susan’s quilty genius + everyone’s favorite Aurifil threads! The quilt blocks finish at 16″ x 16″ – 16½” x 16½” unfinished – and the completed quilt measures 76″ x 96″. We’re told it’s an easy-to-assemble quilt, something that could even be accomplished in this quick 2 week QAL! Susan, Camille, and Moda’s Lissa Alexander are all posting progress pics + tips & tricks and there are a slew of giveaways (including a few of our own — make sure to take a peek at Facebook & Instagram for more info!)

Now, we all know Susan… and we know how amazing and generous and creative she is… Of COURSE she couldn’t let this moment pass without whipping up a coordinating cross stitch chart;).
This sweet little mini is the perfect piece to stitch up and hang by the door, in the kitchen, in the living room, maybe even in your car… honestly, a little reminder that Kindness Matters is welcome anywhere, particularly when done in these bright, sunny hues! The chart is 71 x 53 and uses 8 delightful colors of Aurifloss. Stitch one up over the weekend, or, as Susan so kindly reminded us… stitch fast or stitch slow, but do it your way. Stitch for the joy of it… stitch for the escape. And for goodness sake… stitch happy! The chart is FREE and available via the button below.
We sure hope that you’ll share your progress pics with all of us! Tag #aurifil, #modabloomingflowerqal, & #showmethemoda so that we might all cheer you on! And spread that kindness ALL around, like glitter;). Have fun!
A love of color makes it easy for Susan to grab inspiration from her native Florida surroundings. With no grand idea other than knowing she wanted embroidery and nine patches in her first quilt, a new world opened up to this mom of now five grown children. Being self taught with many hours of reading about the makings of a quilt and quilt blocks has made this a lifelong passion. Susan is always searching for new and fun ways to show off as many colors as she can in a quilt. Most of her quilts are a creative impulse from trips to the garden center, a photograph, or browsing through paint chip selections. “I really never see just the quilt, I seem to see the quilt in the room that it belongs in”. Working in a quilt store for years helped Susan to pursue that passion of color and the fabric inspired life she enjoys while constantly striving to make her next favorite quilt.
