Slice & Stitch Challenge: Bhiravi Rathinasabapathi

Welcome to our final week of the 2021 OLFA/Aurifil mini Slice & Stitch! Throughout this month we’ve introduced you to Aurifil Artisans and OLFA Experts who were challenged to create and share small projects that could be created in an afternoon and gifted for the holidays. They were provided with 1 of 4 OLFA tools in addition to Earth Views, Astronaut Karen Nyberg’s debut thread collection featuring 10 small spools of Aurifil’s 50wt thread. This talented group of makers truly knocked it out of the park and we’ve had so much fun sharing it with all of you!

OLFA: 28mm Quick-Change Rotary Cutter w/ 12″ x 17″ Folding Cutting Mat
AURIFIL: Earth Views by Karen Nyberg

Bhiravi Rathinasabapathi and Amista Baker are our featured makers for week 4! Their projects are the perfect finish to this fabulous little capsule event. We’re excited to showcase Bhiravi’s project here, and don’t miss more about Amista’s project over on the OLFA page.

I’m so glad that Aurifil and OLFA asked me to participate in this year’s Stitch & Slice Challenge! I love making gifts around the holidays, and I knew that potholders would be the perfect scrappy, colorful make to share with you this season.

These potholders come together super fast! They’re easy to make, especially once you get the hang of the binding process. And you can use them to practice some dense, fancy quilting stitches!

Karen Nyberg’s Aurifil thread collection, Earth Views, is gorgeous. It was the color guide for all of my potholders. And I love that it has several groups of coordinating colors, so I can make a whole rainbow of potholders with multicolor quilting.

I also used Olfa’s 12” x 17” Folding Cutting Mat, and 28 mm Quick-Change Rotary Cutter, which were perfect for my small space and small project! Not to mention providing a pretty sweet resting spot for this sweet one:

  1. I love how Bhiravi has chosen the terra coat side of the Earth Views collection to create her quilts. All of the colors are beautiful, but these colors give warmth and spiciness to their locale.
