Radiant Dreams

If you ask us, the intersection of inspiration and organization is the key to quilty success. There is a certain magic in pulling it all together, from the inspiring images to the loved quotes, the family schedules to the artfully planned QAL, the pattern writing to the quilt math, and the fabric coordination to the color charts. There are so many pieces involved in making a living in this creative profession and having one place to pull it all together is paramount.

That is what we adore about The Quilter’s Planner. It offers everything that we need– a place to plan and to dream. To get lost in a design while remembering that mid-week appointment. It allows us to build a sense of calm amidst the chaos, and is done so in its own inspiring way!

We’ve partnered with The Quilter’s Planner for years, offering giveaways and thread sponsorships, and having collaborated with many staff members as Aurifil Artisans and Designers. Our two companies are a perfect fit so it felt only natural to take our partnership to the next level with a curated thread collection. Editor Lorinda Davis brought the idea back in 2021 and picked colors inspired by the Radiant Rainbow planner cover.

Featuring 1148 (Light Jade), 1147 (Light Leaf Green), 2120 (Canary), 2530 (Blossom Pink), 2535 (Magenta), 1128 (Light Blue Violet), Radiant Dreams is a must-have for all quilters who love color. Each of the 6 Large Spools carries 1422 yards of 50wt thread, perfect for regular machine piecing, hand piecing, needle turn appliqué, English paper piecing, machine appliqué, machine quilting and basting; it’s really an incredibly versatile thread to have in your toolkit.

Radiant Dreams is also the perfect partner to the 2022 Quilter’s Planner. With featured patterns by designers Brett LewisChristine SloteJemima FlendtLeanne Parsons, Sarah AshfordSylvia Schaefer, Lynett Muhuso, and Cheryl Brickey the rainbow guarantees that you’ll have every bold and bright color needed to stitch up your very own quilty masterpieces.

Today, we’re thrilled to share a little more about the love of color that inspired this collection. If you’d like to learn a little more about Lorinda, make sure to head HERE. To peek at the Quilter’s Planner launch post HERE.

Have you ever been asked the question ‘What’s your favorite color?’ Most likely, you’ll have a very clear idea about which colors you love and which ones you certainly don’t love! It’s such a personal thing, and we often have strong associations with different colors and what they mean to us. Color is often a starting point for our quilting projects too, and you may have noticed that here at the Quilter’s Planner we love color, and we love a rainbow!

Color can be a very complex subject, with an immense and sometimes mind-boggling amount of theory and science behind it. However, some of this theory can prove very useful, particularly when it comes to putting colors together- something that us quilters do all the time.

So we thought we’d share some of the basics of color theory here; you can find more detailed information on our color theory page in the Reference section of your Quilter’s Planner. We’ll also take a look at the latest addition to our product range; the Radiant Dreams Aurifil thread collection!

The Color Wheel

The color wheel allows us to view the full spectrum of color and helps us understand their chromatic relationships to one another. Let’s take a closer look.

Primary Colors
There are three primary colors; red, blue and yellow. These colors cannot be created by mixing other colors.

Secondary Colors
These are green, orange and purple. They are the colors created when mixing 2 primary colors together.

Complementary Colors
This is a term you’ll have heard a lot. It refers to colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel and go well together. For example blue and orange, red purple and yellow green. They have the strongest contrast and harmony.

Analogous Colors
These are colors that are next to one another on the color wheel. For example, Blue, blue green and blue purple. They can evoke feelings of harmony and balance.

Radiant Dreams Aurifil Thread Collection

Color really does make our hearts sing here at the Quilter’s Planner, so when the opportunity presented itself to curate a designer collection for thread company Aurifil, deep, saturated jewel-like tones in a rainbow spectrum were the perfect combination. Inspired by the Quilter’s Planner brand colors and Lorinda’s love of all things rainbow, the Radiant Dreams collection was born. Head to the online shop now to order your set.

HUGE thanks to Lorinda and the whole team at The Quilter’s Planner. This is just the beginning and we’re excited to bring more color inspiration to you throughout this year, including a how it all began interview, a colorful pattern, and more!
