“Capri on the Amalfi Coast in Italy is my ultimate holiday destination.”
– Vidal Sassoon

Capri in Summer is one of Italy’s most coveted vacation destinations. La Grotta Azzurra (The Blue Grotto) is our first stop. The wait to enter may be long, but it’s worth it… even just for a few magical moments. We board a wooden rowboat and are instructed duck our heads and lay back to pass through the entrance, which appears to be less than a metre high. The interior of the natural cavern, just 60 metres by 25 metres, takes our breath away. It’s as though we’ve entered into an alternate reality– aquamarine water illuminated by the sunlight peeking through cracks in the rocks. Our boat bobs in the dark, suspended on the surface in a way that almost seems dream-like.

After the grotto, we head over to Capri’s secondary, but equally breathtaking attraction, I Faraglioni– three hulking rock spurs that rise up out of the sea, just off the island’s Southern coast. We’re grateful for a chartered sailboat, giving the opportunity to admire each of the three (Stella, Faraglione di Mezzo, and Faraglione di Fuori or Scopolo) from the deck, sipping champagne and dragging our fingers through the pristine waters.

We end our day with a simple aperitivo at the chiazz (local name for a square), watching the day go by… the perfect end to a glorious adventure.

FUN FACTS
– Single use plastic bottles will soon be banned on the island in an effort to combat the volume of trash left behind from the 2.3 million tourists the island sees each year.
– On I Faraglioni the lizards camouflage blue, allowing them to blend in with the sea.

Our Capri set features 3 shades of 50wt thread in 2835, 1148, & 4093. They coordinate perfectly with the Turquoise, Breeze, & Peacock Bella Solids by Moda Fabrics shown above. For a bit of creative inspiration, make sure to grab the Italian Color Builders EPP Pattern (shown above) by Aurifil’s own Kate Brennan and the Green Grotto block (shown below) by Aurifil Designer Nicholas Ball via the buttons below.
