“Milan is a true metropolis: strong and fearless, but welcoming too.”

– Giorgio Armani

Milan is a bit of a ghost town in August. Locals escape to the seaside or countryside whenever possible, so really the city is left with less people. The evening atmosphere is quite amazing… quiet, no traffic… only the laughter of people enjoying the end of their day.

Ice cream is an absolute must… a real tradition in the Summer. We head to Parco Sempione for a gelato, surrounded by a bit of greenery and fresh air.

We saunter over to the Navigli District for an aperitivo. Constructed over a period of hundreds of years,  with input from Leonardo da Vinci himself, Milan’s system of canals gave the landlocked city more access to the outside world. Today, the areas around Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese feature a plethora of bars, restaurants, and cafés that pulse with activity on weekend nights.

We end our evening from a perch on the open terraces of the Duomo, the perfect spot to admire the city from above and seek out the constellations in the night sky.

FUN FACTS
There are pink flamingos in Milan! Romeo Invernizzi, owner of Villa Invernizzi, brought the pink flamingos there all the way from South Africa in the early 70s. The birds adapted fairly well and thrive to this day!

Our Milan set features 3 shades of 50wt thread in 2600, 2610, & 5004. They coordinate perfectly with the Zen Fog, Platinum, & Etchings Charcoal Bella Solids by Moda Fabrics shown above. For a bit of creative inspiration, make sure to grab the Italian Color Builders EPP Pattern (shown above) by Aurifil’s own Kate Brennan and the Milan block (shown below) by Blair Stocker via the buttons below.

As a reminder, over the next few weeks, every purchase at Shop Aurifil containing one or more Color Builder collections will be entered for a chance to win a prize package valued over $550!
