Stitch-School x Aurifil Community Project

Do you ever dream of taking a pause… having a moment to sit down and enjoy some slow stitching with friends? At the Stitch Festival in London, England later this month, you will be able to do just that! From March 23 – 26, Stitch-School will host a community embroidery event, inviting Stitch Festival attendees to add embroidery stitches to a three meter floral linen cloth (shown below).

It’s a wonderful opportunity to discover and practice a wide range of embroidery stitches and designs while working collaboratively to create a beautifully stitched work of art. As Aurifil is a key sponsor, every stitch will be lovingly made with our beautiful 6-strand Cotton Floss.

* Hot Tip: If you’re planning to attend, be sure to inquire about our event giveaway — you’ll have an opportunity to win your very own Aurifloss stash! Our Best Selection collection features 45 Small Spools of cotton floss, carefully wound on our signature wooden spools.

Stitch-School was co-founded by Melanie Bowles and Aimee Betts back in 2017 with the aim of providing inspiration for and guidance on the benefits of embroidery through bespoke kits, workshops, and community events, all held around a large communal table called The Supper Cloth. These events provide a space for us all to sit down, slow down, and feed our creativity through stitching. Learning together and exploring the wealth of embroidery stitches helps us to de-stress and unwind from our busy modern lifestyles in addition to creating a sense of well being and relaxation.

The Supper Cloth design for the Stitch Festival community embroidery event has been based on Blue Willow china and is called ‘Still Life’ (see the image at the top of this blog post). Imagine this pattern filled with a range of decorative stitches made with all different colors of Aurifil thread. We just know it is going to look spectacular and we can’t wait to see the resulting masterpiece!

Stitchers worldwide are likely used to seeing Aurifloss wound on our signature wooden spools. For the Stitch-School community embroidery event we have had the floss specially wound onto cones and flown in directly from our factory in Italy, ensuring that there is enough floss for everyone and less chance of any colors running low!

Embroidery guidance will be provided by Stitch-School at the event along with plenty of handy printed booklets to show attendees how to achieve different embroidery stitches, not to mention the inspiration and confidence you will feel by being surrounded by like-minded creatives.

Stitch-School will also be launching their floral embroidery kit for participants to take home and continue stitching!

We’re certain this is going to be a magnificent event and we hope to see you there. AND — if you’re adding stitches to The Supper Cloth, snag a photo, share on IG and tag us (@aurifilthread & @stitch_school) so we can see your contributions to this community fueled project. While you’re there, don’t forget to enter the giveaway for a chance to win an Aurifil Best Selection Floss set!
