Indelible 8wt Threads by Anna Maria Textiles, Part 1

The word “indelible” means something that cannot be forgotten, erased, or removed. This idea of permanence perfectly reflects the debut fabric collection for Anna Maria Textiles, a newly launched division of Northcott Fabrics helmed by esteemed designer Anna Maria Parry (formerly Horner). Her designs are at once modern and classic, a soulful showcase of hand-drawn florals that reinvent the concept of a blender or a neutral, in a sense, “indelibly etching” them into her fabric design archives.

This spectrum of two-color designs brings together my love of line drawing and my favorite palette to use in my quilt making and sewing. I designed new florals as well as reimagined very special designs, like Echinacea and Peony, to give the quilter a tonal palette to use alongside more illustrative collections. The Indelible palette is both rich and soft, and the linework is highly detailed and timeless.

Our 11th collaborative collection with Anna Maria unveils 20 fresh shades of Aurifil’s 100% Cotton 8wt thread, curated to perfectly complement each one of her Indelible prints. A striking array of vivid hues sits alongside essential neutrals, promising to ignite boundless creativity. This new palette captures the essence of lasting beauty, ensuring that each and every stitch made with these threads leaves a mark as unforgettable as the colors themselves.

In celebration of the partnership and our second launch of our 100% cotton 8wt, we sent initial samples in five stunning hues out to a wonderfully creative group of Aurifil Artisans, Designers, and friends. The feedback has been astoundingly positive and we’ve been devouring each new project with pure elation. Starting today and continuing through International Quilt Market at the end of this month, we’ll be sharing the stunning work of these makers, culminating in an interview and project feature from Anna Maria Parry. We hope you’ll find inspiration within and can’t wait to hear what you might make with the threads of Indelible!

Most of my totes are quite utilitarian and I wanted to make one more for show. I matched five of the Indelible threads to Kona Cotton colorways. A number of HSTs with strips attached to the sides resulted in a playful pattern that cried out for big stitch lines and French knots.

Tips: I found the Milliner’s size 7 that I use with 12wt also worked really well for 8wt.

I was pleasantly surprised that I needed to rethink my quilting plan for 8wt, having been most familiar with quilting with 12wt. The 8wt thread stands out more, which meant I made subtle adjustments to my plan to strike a better balance for the overall design. I enjoyed the stretch that comes from working with a new addition to my quilting toolbox.

This is a mini quilt using the Hexie Pillow pattern from Modern Handcraft. I used Aurifil’s new 8wt from the Indelible collection to add dense hand quilting.

The 8wt thread is so dreamy to work with! For this project I did hand stitching through a mini quilt and the thread was strong while gliding through the layers effortlessly. The vibrant colors were perfect for this project!

There are so many ways to make your quilt even more special. One of my favorites is to add a cute little label to the back of my quilts and to hand stitch with colorful thread like this Aurifil 8wt in Blossom Pink (#2530) by Anna Maria Textiles. This new 8wt thread is my go-to for adding that extra special touch to quilt bindings. It’s thick enough to make bold, beautiful stitches but still glides through fabric smoothly. I love how the rich colors really pop, giving my quilts a handmade, cozy feel that finishes them off perfectly.

This embroidery hoop quilt is in honor of my close friends who make up the quilt bee that I’m in. I typically like to hand quilt with 12wt, but for this project I wanted the quilting to stand out more, especially the playful stars and other details. 8wt was perfect for accomplishing this!

I love the way the 8wt thread stands out. It adds so much texture to a project!

I just finished hand quilting this quilt with the new 8wt threads from Anna Maria Parry’s range ‘Indelible’. Absolutely delightful! Brillant colours & the texture is devine.

Tips:
Wool Wadding: The use of wool wadding can contribute to a smoother quilting experience, as it offers a forgiving surface that reduces friction.

Quilting Hoop: A quilting hoop provides a stable workspace, making it easier to control the stitches and maintain consistent tension.

Size 4 Milliner Needles: These fine-point needles are ideal for hand quilting with 8wt thread, as they can easily penetrate the fabric and thread without causing undue stress.

Pushing and pulling thimbles: are particularly useful for this task. They protect your fingers from needle pricks while providing a firm surface to push or pull the needle through the fabric.

Colour Palette: The chosen colours (1133, 1148, 2120, 2530, 2880, 5003) likely complement the project’s overall aesthetic and provide a harmonious contrast or blend with the fabric. By incorporating these techniques and tools, quilters can enhance their experience with 8wt thread and create beautiful, high-quality projects.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Anna Maria Textiles Aurifil thread range, Indelible in 8wt. The experience was nothing short of delightful. The thread’s smooth texture and exceptional quality made quilting a breeze. After finishing my first quilt, I was so eager to start another. The vibrant, stunning colours added a touch of magic to my projects, and the 8wt provided a perfect balance of strength and finesse. I can’t wait to explore more of this incredible thread range.

I adored exploring the vibrant possibilities of the new Aurifil 8wt Indelible Thread Collection designed by Anna Maria Textiles. Starting with five rich colors, I hand-stitched a circular design on the pillow front, allowing the texture to ripple softly outward. As I worked, the pillow began to take on a playful energy, which inspired the addition of handmade thread tassels at each corner for a bit of whimsy. The back is machine-quilted in a diamond grid to balance the front’s organic feel and offer more possibilities for using this thread. I feel like the pillow took on such a dynamic, textural personality. If you’re curious about working with 8wt thread, head to my blog (linked below) for all the tips and tricks!

Aurifil’s new 8wt thread is a game changer for adding texture and dimension to my quilting. The thread is perfect for hand or machine stitching and the thickness really enhances the design. I especially loved how the vibrant colors of the Indelible Collection by Anna Maria Textiles pop. If you’re looking for a thread with a rich, tactile finish this is it. I’m excited to keep experimenting with its endless possibilities!

Lately, I had the chance to put my hands on a gorgeous new thread, Aurifil 8wt, and it’s a hand sewing delight!! I’ve used it to embroider on 2 bags, and also to add hand stitches on a recent quilt. These rich colors, smooth and sheeny cotton threads are fabulous…

Inspired by the colours in the Postcards from the Highlands Liberty quilting collection. I have a created a tartan using chicken scratch embroidery on a soft heather gingham fabric. The 8wt threads were a dream to embroider with to create this feature panel. I embellished the envelope style cushion with key tassels and a button tuft in the 8wt threads, the thread has strength and a beautiful sheen.

Tips: I used a Sashiko needle by Tulip needles for the chicken scratch embroidery. The eye was large enough to not cause any issues. It was a joy to stitch with without having to separate the floss threads.

I knew I was going to love working with the 8wt as I had treated myself to the Evolve collection at Quiltcon. I was already pleased with using it to hand quilt so I thought I will try different techniques to show its versatility. The 8 wt was perfect for chicken scratch embroidery on a 1/4″ gingham square check. There was no need to seperate floss and the thread lies even and flat when stitched. I tested it further by making key tassels and the thread with held the tension when wrapping the tassel. Plus the cut thread fluffs nicely when steamed to create a fuller effect. The sheen of the thread is perfect. I did not feel the need to add a thread conditioner when handquilting. To summarise I love 8wt!

The Indelible Designer Collection inspired me to create a whimsical summer night with colorful moths flying among the stars. The Aurifil 8wt thread is so nice to work with and look at that sheen!! This bright and colorful collection by Anna Maria Textiles is pure joy!

Tips: I like using a Clover gold eye embroidery needle size 3 or 5. It works perfectly for me.

I love stitching with the new 8wt. It’s soft, it has the most perfect sheen and all the colors are beautiful!

For the 8wt challenge, I used free motion machine embroidery on water soluble fabric layered over tulle. Once the water soluble fabric was washed away, it revealed the embroidery.
