Dresden Summer Stitch Along, Week 3

Happy Stitch Along day! We’re officially halfway through the Dresden Summer Stitch Along and loving every moment of this creative journey with you. From beautifully pieced Dresden Plates to those delicate embroidered centers, your work continues to inspire!

Today, we’re thrilled to release the Week 3 embroidery patterns, the next charming designs in this joyful summer series. Whether you’re all caught up or just finding your rhythm, we hope these patterns offer a bit of peaceful stitching and plenty of creative fun.

This Stitch Along is a true celebration of collaboration—designed by the ever-talented Susan Ache (@yardgrl60), brought to life with rich, versatile Aurifil Floss, and made possible in partnership with our friends at Moda Fabrics. It’s the kind of slow, intentional stitching we all need this time of year.

Well hello again to all my stitching buddies! It’s Susan Ache here (@yardgrl60 on Instagram), popping in for a quick Summer check-in and to deliver your next embroidery pattern—because yes, we’re already at Week 3 of our Dresden Summer Stitch Along! Time flies when you’re having fun (and maybe also stitching just a little bit slower because of the summer heat? Just me?).

Raise your hand if you are feeling the dog days of summer! Granted, my hand has been up since Easter, but we won’t count my endless heat in Florida. I do certainly enjoy staying cool, stitching, and binge watching tv with my remote in one hand and my stitching in the other.

So how are you all doing out there? Are you caught up with the first four patterns, or are you more of a “print now, stitch later” kind of person? Both options are perfectly reasonable! I’d love to hear more about where some of you are taking your stitching— poolside, porch swings, family road trips, even a beach or two? Have you made a Susan-style ‘go-bag’ yet, packed with a few needles, some cut floss, a hoop (or not), and a printed pattern or two— just in case the stitching mood hits while you’re out and about?

When I’m stitching at home, I definitely have my comfort zone. Two strands of floss (always), a nice sharp needle, and a ridiculously bright light. I’m talking small-sun-on-your-desk kind of bright. It makes all the difference for me, especially when I’m working on linen.

If you’re still prepping your blocks or playing with floss colors, that’s fabulous, too! There’s no “behind” in this stitch along. It’s your Summer, your pace, and your project. I’m just thrilled to be here cheering you on and sharing in the joy of watching this come to life alongside all of you.

Don’t forget to grab your Week 3 pattern and keep stitching when you can. I’ll meet you right back here in two weeks with the next piece of the puzzle. Until then— enjoy every stitch and soak up every sweet (and sweaty) bit of summer.

— Susan

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Dresden blocks or trying your hand at embroidery for the first time, this is a project designed for joy, exploration, and a whole lot of summer stitching fun. We can’t wait to see your take on these joyful blocks. Happy stitching, and stay tuned for Week 4 on August 1!
