Signups are officially open for Sheri’s latest Block of the Month and Quilt Sew Along, and we’re honestly a little in awe (again). After nearly a decade of collaborating with Sheri, she continues to surprise us with her creativity, precision, and fearless innovation. Yes, those lush, flowing curves you’re admiring? They’re foundation paper pieced— and somehow, Sheri makes them feel both magical and achievable.

Over the years, we’ve highlighted Sheri’s epic BOM programs— Starry SignsGreenhouse GardenShoreline ShellsBotanical BeautiesAround the World— each one unmistakably hers, each one thoughtfully designed, technically brilliant, and deeply inspired by the natural world. Her work balances precision with play, structure with softness, and artistry with approachability in a way few designers can.

Sheri is not only one of the most talented makers we know, but also one of the kindest, and it’s always an honor to celebrate her creativity and vision. Today, we’re thrilled to turn things over to Sheri as she introduces Wildflower Remix, her newest flower-filled FPP adventure. Prepare to be inspired— and maybe a little bit amazed.

Hello quilting friends! I’m Sheri from Whole Circle Studio, and I’m so excited to share a closer look at Wildflower Remix, my 2026 Block of the Month and Quilt Sew Along. This project grew from my love of bold, graphic florals and foundation paper piecing. Every part of the Wildflower Remix quilt is foundation paper pieced (FPP), and from piecing the quilt top through the final quilting stitches, I relied on Aurifil thread to help the design shine without stealing the spotlight.

When I’m designing a quilt like Wildflower Remix, I’m thinking about more than fabric and block layouts. I’m thinking about how everything works together: shape, color, texture… and yes, thread.

Thread is one of those quiet decisions that makes a huge difference. Thread choices can help make your quilt feel cohesive and intentional.

For Wildflower Remix, I made three very different quilt samples, and I used Aurifil thread a little differently in each one but always with the same goal: to have the thread choices and quilting support the quilt top design, not compete with it.

Foundation Paper Piecing with Aurifil 50wt

All three Wildflower Remix quilts were foundation paper pieced (FPP) using Aurifil 50wt cotton thread.

This is my go-to thread for FPP, especially for quilts with lots of angles and detail like Wildflower Remix. The 50wt keeps seams flat and crisp, which really matters when you’re piecing quilts with smaller sections and multiple seams overlapping.

Walking Foot Quilting with Aurifil

Quilt #1: Solid Fabric Wildflower Remix Quilt
Letting 50wt Thread Support the Design

For the solid fabric version of Wildflower Remix, I quilted using my walking foot on my domestic machine. I used Aurifil 50wt thread for most of the quilting, choosing thread colors that closely matched the fabrics in the quilt top.

This quilt is all about bold shapes and color, so I wanted the quilting to support those shapes by adding texture without distracting from the flowers, leaves, and border. Using 50wt thread in matching colors for these areas allows the quilting to blend in and let the piecing shine.

For the background, I switched to Aurifil 40wt thread, matching it to the cream fabric. Because the background quilting is less dense, the slightly thicker thread helps it stand out just enough while still feeling soft and cohesive.

Thread Used for Wildflower Remix Solid Fabrics Version—
Flowers: Aurifil 50wt (colors: 2530, 2134, 2150, 2425, 2220, 1148)

Leaves & Border: Aurifil 50wt (colors: 1231)
Background: Aurifil 40wt (color: 2309)

Quilt #2: Moda Grunge Wildflower Remix Quilt
Adding Presence with 40wt Thread

The Moda Grunge version is a slightly different story. Grunge fabrics have so much built-in texture and variation that I didn’t want the quilting to disappear. For this quilt, I mostly used Aurifil 40wt thread, still matching thread colors to the fabrics, but choosing a slightly thicker weight so the quilting could hold its own.

That little bit of extra weight makes the quilting more visible without overwhelming the quilt top design. It adds definition and helps the stitching stand up to the texture in the fabric.

Thread Used for Wildflower Remix Grunge Version—
Flowers: Aurifil 40wt (colors: 1100, 2145, 2240, 2437, 2588, 2520)
Leaves: Aurifil 40wt (color: 2888)
Background: Aurifil 40wt (color: 2783)

Quilt #3: Scrappy Wildflower Remix Quilt
Minimal and Intentional

For my scrappy Wildflower Remix quilt, I kept the quilting very simple with straight, vertical lines. I made this quilt entirely from fabrics in my stash, which made it extra fun to see all the different prints come together.

I used Aurifil 40wt white thread (color 2309), choosing it to pick up on the scrappy whites and neutral fabrics scattered throughout the background. The slightly thicker 40wt thread also helps the quilting show up a bit more and stand out through some of the bolder prints in the quilt top.

For this quilt, I leaned into simplicity. The white thread creates a quiet rhythm across the quilt and ties all those different fabrics together, letting the blocks and prints shine without distraction.

One Quilt Design, Three Approaches

What I love about these three quilts is that they’re built from the same blocks, but they feel completely different. Thread played a big role in that.

• 50wt for precision and subtlety
• 40wt when quilting texture needs a little more presence
• Thread color choices that support the fabric colors
