Introducing Il Salotto, Aurifil’s 2026 advent calendar. Designed as a celebration of creativity, comfort, and the art of making by hand, this year’s calendar invites you to slow down and savor the season— one thoughtful stitch at a time. Behind each door awaits a beautifully curated spool of Aurifil’s premium 100% cotton thread, offering a quiet moment of inspiration each day. With 12 small spools of our versatile Cotton 50wt and 12 small spools of our richly textured Cotton 12wt, this collection was created to support piecing, quilting, and embellishing alike, honoring every facet of the maker’s craft.

Rooted in the foothills of the Italian Alps, our surroundings continue to shape our story. For this third chapter, our inspiration moves beyond the mountains and village streets, guiding us inward— to the warmth and intimacy of home. Here, where winter settles gently against the windows, creativity flourishes in its most meaningful form.

To settle into the true inspiration of this collectible set, let’s set the scene…
Under the glow of a quiet winter sunset, the village softened into evening, its edges blurred by a hush that felt almost sacred. Inside Aurelia's home, Il Salotto gathered its warmth slowly and deliberately, like a story unfolding one careful stitch at a time. Beyond the frost-laced windows, the sky faded from pale gold to a tender wash of apricot and rose, the last light slipping gently over the snow-draped rooftops. But within, the world glowed— alive with firelight, laughter, and the steady rhythm of hands at work.
Aurelia stood near the hearth, her silhouette flickering against the plastered wall as she stirred a pot of mulled wine. The scent filled the room— deep red wine infused with clove, star anise, and orange peel— rich and spiced, weaving itself into the very fabric of the evening. Cinnamon lingered in the air, soft and sweet. On a wooden table nearby, glasses waited, their surfaces catching the amber light.
The fire crackled steadily, its voice low and comforting. Each shifting log released bursts of golden sparks, sending warmth across the room in gentle waves. Aurelia paused, holding her hands just above the flames, feeling the heat bloom against her skin.
Around her, the salotto had come to life. Cushions in shades of deep rust, forest green, and faded gold were gathered along a long sofa, their textures worn but beloved. A woolen blanket, handwoven and heavy, was draped over its arm, while baskets nearby overflowed with skeins of yarn, stacks of scrap fabrics, and containers filled with threads in bold and earthy colors that echoed the alpine landscape beyond the walls.
In the corner, a Christmas tree stood tall, its branches full and fragrant. The scent of fresh pine threaded through the room, crisp and grounding, blending with the warmth of spice and fire. Candlelight flickered among its boughs, each flame mirrored in glass ornaments and polished baubles collected over many seasons. Some were newly made— delicate forms stitched from linen and wool, small embroidered tokens that carried the quiet imprint of the hands that made them.
Friends and family had settled into their places, their voices rising and falling like music. A glass clinked softly against another. Someone laughed, low and easy. Conversation drifted from stories of winters past to the gifts they planned to give— each one imagined, shaped, and stitched by hand.
At their feet, the family dog slept, curled into a contented circle on the woven rug. Its breath rose and fell in slow rhythm, undisturbed by the gentle cadence of conversation and craft. Every so often, an ear twitched at the sound of a log shifting in the fire, but it did not wake.
By the window, where the last light lingered, Aurelia took her seat. Her sewing hoop rested lightly in her lap, the linen stretched taut and waiting. She threaded her needle with care, selecting a strand of warm, honeyed gold floss. Around her, others worked too— quilts unfurled across knees, embroidery hoops held close, cross-stitch patterns slowly taking form. The gentle pull of thread through fabric made a quiet, rhythmic sound, soft as snowfall.
The fading sunlight touched everything it could reach: the edge of a thimble, the curve of a needle, the fine grain of wooden frames. And, as night deepened, the outside world faded, replaced by the soft glow within. Candles burned low, the fire softened into embers, and the rhythm of stitching continued— slow, steady, meaningful.
