A peek into The Sewing Room

Every quilter’s sewing space tells a story— scattered thread tails, a favorite pair of scissors, a stack of fabric that’s being saved for that yet to be determined project, the print out of the latest pattern you simply have to make. It’s this exact kind of everyday magic that inspired The Sewing Room, a brand-new free foundation paper piecing event launching August 20th.

Organized by Kristy Lea of Quiet Play, the event brings together nine talented designers to build a collection of blocks celebrating all the little things that make a sewing space feel like home. In addition to Kristy, the lineup includes Sheri of Whole Circle Studio, Sam of Hunter Design Studio, Amber of Alderwood Studio, Sasha of Sasha’s Quilts, Rosie of Rosie Taylor Crafts, Ingrid of Joe, June & Mae, Satomi of Satomi Quilts, and Liza of Liza Taylor Handmade— bold, playful designs, each with its own maker’s signature style.

If you’re new to FPP, Aurifilosopher and Sewing Room pattern designer Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill has some great tips to share. She has been sharing her FPP expertise right here on Auribuzz for nearly a decade and she has helped countless makers progress in their own FPP journeys. For Foundation Paper Piecing, I always use Aurifil 50wt thread. It’s thin yet strong, which helps reduce bulk in your seams—a must when working with overlapping sections in FPP. The quality and durability of Aurifil 50wt ensures my FPP seams stay secure, even after tugging to remove the paper.

Nine designers, nine days, nine free patterns… are you in??

Here’s Kristy to share more…

If you asked a quilter to describe their sewing room in just three words, more than likely the answer would be “my happy place”.  For those of us who love to cut fabric up just to sew it back together, our sewing space is a creative haven. We fill it with all the tools of the trade – scissors, fabric, thread (hello Aurifil!) and more.
