Hi this is Pat Sloan! I’m excited to share a few things that I’m doing with AURIfil thread this year.

During the year watch for a series of short videos I’m making about AURlfil threads and how I use them.  The first one tells you how to determine the weight thread… super easy as they color coded it for us!

I want to share a bit about the threads in my 50wt KIT Art Box. Picking just 12 ‘Go To’ colors was not easy!  I think you can see why some are in there for basic piecing and machine quilting. I also included a few unique colors in my KIT that you will find very useful.  The Peach #2220, Citrus Green #2920, and the Clove Brown #2372.
When auditioning thread, unwind a strand and lay it over the fabric. This lets you see the color as you will be using it. Wrapped on the spool the color is rich and intense, but one strand is the true usage of the color.

The Clove Brown is my go to for shades of brown and for lighter shades of red when the Burgundy thread is too dark.

and Lighter reds.

Now take the Citrus Green, it’s fabulous on acid/lime green. But it also works SUPER on light yellow and lighter shades of green that are not leaning towards lime!

And now the Peach which is an unexpected workhorse color. It’ great for piecing lighter shades of anything… but also for quilting over light orange, peach and lighter shades of pink.

And more pink with a nice mulit print.

The last news for this month is that starting in February I’m starting a FREE Block of the Month for AURlfil thread! It will be on this website and mine.  I’ll be doing appliqué with a setting pieced block. Using thread for piecing, machine blanket stitch AND I’ll have some embroidery on the blocks using 12wt, it’s going to be SUCH FUN!
