My favorite holiday tradition is taking out the Christmas quilts that I’ve made and hanging them or tossing them where they will be used during the season. There is a quilt for each of my grandchildren to inherit. Each quilt will carry with it memories of Christmas at grandma’s house.
I’ve been following Aurifil for a very long time!
My favorite holiday tradition is driving around town and enjoying all the light displays on Christmas Eve. I also follow on Facebook.
We try to keep it simple and loose, not big on struggling for tradition sake. Every year, though, my husband saves the silver bells for my to hang on the tree. One was given to my mother on my birth and the other was given to me when our son was born. That one I don’t mind.
My favorite holiday tradition was making a big bowl of eggnog (homemade with a little rum and bourbon) to sip while trimming the tree. Unfortunately it is now just me and it had fallen by the wayside. But last year my nephew was here to help put up the tree. And I made a batch!!!! Will have to continue, even if it is just me. Just for the memories. And wonderful memories too.
My favourite holiday tradition is decorating the Christmas

We all get a very big laugh out of it (even my sister in law).

I started a new tradition last Christmas. I made a Christmas quilt, wall hanging and took it to my children’s home for Christmas. This year my oldest daughter gets to display the quilt and then will pass it on to daughter #2 for the next year. Then she will send to son, and then back to me. In the meantime, I am going to start another one and continue the cycle! Should be fun! Christmas is of course, my favorite holiday. Thanks for the opportunity to win!!!!

My favorite holiday tradition is very un-traditional. Each year, we spend as much time as possible between Thanksgiving and the third Saturday in December checking out all the Christmas lights displays on homes in Phoenix and putting together a “run” (a progression) of the best of them. And then on the third Saturday in December, we lead 30 – 40 cars from our MINI Cooper club on a Christmas lights run through the entire metro area to view people’s Christmas lights and decor. We make a few scheduled stops, including one halfway stop for refreshments and we end up at a house with over half a million lights where one year we ran into Muhammad Ali and his family, also looking at the lights.

Our favorite holiday tradition is to all go together to the local Christmas Tree Farm. It’s the same farm I have gone to since 1959 and is still owned by the same family. I’ve taken my own children there since they were born and now one of them who still lives in the area is taking his own family to that same farm. My husband and I have sadly not gone the past few years because of my health and I have to admit not going there leaves a huge hole in my Christmastime celebrations. That is such a very long history for me to have gone to the same farm for that many years.

Because my husband is an EMS helicopter pilot we have to sometimes get “creative” about the day we actually celebrate Christmas, but we always hang out in our pj’s and have a wonderful brunch after checking our stockings (for gag gifts) and opening presents.
Love the book and of course, Aurifil threads! Thanks for a chance to win!
I’ve been a follower on facebook for a while now…
Trimming the tree has always been my favorite Christmas tradition; it’s so wonderful to relive special memories associated with each ornament as it’s placed on the tree, and equally fun to fin a special new one each year to add to the collection.
We have always opened our presents one at a time so we can “oooh” and “aaaah” over each gift. My son (college age) always thought this was such a terrible idea…until he was visiting another family and experienced the chaos. He is slowly realizing I have my reasons for doing things a certain way.

My favorite tradition is to ride through Tanglewood park were they have the festival of lights each year. It gets our family excited about the season.
We have many holiday traditions and they have changed as our children have grown and left home. One that is still a favorite is our Christmas Day brunch — for however many of us are “in town”, with our breakfast casserole, cinnamon buns, etc.
Christmas is my favorite time with the grankids. Love sewing for them.
Our favorite Christmas tradition is being together early Christmas morning, eating sausage cheeseballs, opening gifts and watching the little ones faces. Being together is the best part of the holidays!
My sister in law makes cinnamon rolls and even delivers to our door…yum
I like to make a new christmas stocking each year.
Holiday tradition. I think my real question is what Holiday Tradition don’t I like? Basically, if it’s been any sort of tradition since I was a child I try to follow it. I still love Santa coming for EVERYONE under the tree. We have about 7 family holiday parties to go to. My mom has 12 brother’s and sisters so every year we rent a hall for the over 100 folks that come. Everyone makes an ornament and that’s how we decorate the tree when we arrive. At the end of the party, we pick a name and that’s who gets the ornament we made. This past year was the first year without my grandma and I wasn’t sure how many would make the trip to Christmas. All but two cousins (who live out of state) made it! It was wonderful to be able to share memories of my grandma on christmas with everyone. I could write a novel about holiday tradition but I’ll stop here for now 🙂 Thanks for this awesome giveaway! I heart Aurifil!
I already liked Aurifil on facebook but now both of my pages – persimondreams and projectquilting like you as well!
Christmas cookies!
More fun to eat than bake.
I think one of my favorite traditions for the holiday season is make a yule logs. However, since every year has a different theme when it comes to the adornments on the logs, we then end up making a new table runner to place the decorated log on. Then we make a matching tree skirt!
Fabulous giveaway. One of our favorite traditions is to drive to our NC mountains to choose and cut a Christmas tree. We never know what the weather is going to be like when we get up to the mountains. It is a fun time.

I would love to receive this. One year my hubby gave little red wagons to each of our grown children as a Christmas gift to each family. The grand babies were fastlu arriving. I would like to quilt a wagon design on a pillow top to give those same children this next Christmas. I have not quilted since the 1980’s, and this simple project would jump start me again into quilting. My hubby has now been in Heaven for 4 Christmas’. Memories are what we cherish now!

My favorite holiday tradition is decorating the entire house with paper snowflakes hung from the ceiling at different levels so it looks like a snow storm when the ceiling fans move them. I have hundreds & hundreds of them. I now have grandkids that like to “add” to the collection by making some. It’s something I have done for about 40 years…since my kids were little. Now that I live in Florida, it’s really a novelty to see. LOVE Aurifil! And I really like the fabric trees on the book cover…..something to add to my decoration collection, I think. Our favorite holiday tradition are the Christmas socks. My adult kids have been ready to give up all the other trappings but not their socks. When they were small I made them all a large quilted sock that could hold a colouring book and crayons, along with undies and socks. Now it’s gift cards to get their own undies and socks along with the grooming essentials. Every year they are basicly the same but for them it brings back the excitement of when they were small.

Gathering of family members from near and far to share a meal and exchange gifts is how we celebrate the holiday.

My favorite Christmas tradition is meeting at Mom and Dads house with all of the siblings (10 – 7 girls and 3 boys) and their children to open gifts. As we have such a large family, 43 immediate family, the brothers and sisters each draw two names of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren to buy gifts for, then all of the brothers and sisters buy gifts for Mom and Dad. With dinner over and the leftovers set aside, we gather in the living room and someone begins pulling packages from under the tree and passing them out. Squeals of joy and thank you and laughter makes the trip home the most awaited holiday of the year.
My favorite Christmas tradition is waking up early on Christmas morning to check our stockings. Then we have a leisurely breakfast on our special breakfast china. After the dishes are done, we open presents. It was such fun to see the kids scurry around to help with the dishes when they were little so they could get to their presents faster!

I imagine I should write something about my love of quilting and thread and fabric and all that. Making special gifts and all, which I do. But, my joy comes from baking all the Hungarian cookies that have been handed down from generation to generation. Taught to me by my mother and then to my children and now the grandchildren fill the kitchen, make a mess, the cookies sometimes don’t look perfect, they are covered in flour, I have a mess in my hair and let’s not get to the kitchen clean up part. This is my love affair with Christmas. That and then comes Christmas eve when I plate up the cookies for our open house and watch the children smile as I extol many kudos upon them for the beauty of their work. I love it. I am blessed.
If I win, that would be great, but just reliving last Christmas on a warm summer day is so worth the effort to enter.
love Aurifil thread
We make huge boxes of cookies each year for family, friends, neighbors and coworkers. We have our standard recipes which are always a favorite, and we add a few new treats each year so that there are about a dozen or so varieties. Our FedEx driver is the envy of his coworkers, because he always gets a large box. It’s only fair after all, since he has to collect about 12 of the 5 pound boxes to deliver for us around the country. It started the year before my twin sons were born, and they will be 18 next year.

Then Dad hands out the presents one at a time so that it’s orderly buy everyone gets to enjoy the experience of waiting and anticipation… and everyone gets to enjoy watching each other get into their surprises! We can relax… I can get all the photo’s I want and not have a mass openning with all the chaos that goes with it and not knowing who gave what or where it came from after. I hate that!

My sis-in-law and I have a small, ratty, torn Christmas box that we have been exchanging with each other forever! Each year it is an adventure to see if that years’ “keeper of the box” remembers that it is her year to fill it with a small, fun gift and present it to the other. This year I know right where it is … in my sewing room! Time to get busy making a cute little something for her!

We love to sit up and wait for midnight on Christmas Eve, then we hand out the presents and open them. Christmas day is a relaxing day, either having a braai or cold meats and salads because it is hot here in South Africa
My favorite traditions all involve movies (one of my favorite hobbies). We kick off the Christmas season by watching ‘Christmas Vacation’ Thanksgiving night! Between then and the big day, ‘White Christmas’ and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ are required. Then we enjoy the ’24 hours of A Christmas Story’ Christmas Eve/Day, until we can’t take it anymore. 🙂

I have been following Aurifil threads since last christmas. I mainly have been buying the 50wt thread for piecing. It is the best thread as it settles down into the cotton fibres perfectly not distorting the seam allowance perfect! I’d love to win thanks for the chance. Julie Beard.
