What first drew you to the world of sewing and quilting?

When I was young I always wanted to be a fashion designer so I knew I needed to learn to sew.  There was always a machine and lots of fabric so with the help of 4 H and my mom I learned how to sew.  It wasn’t until  I started working with Moda 25 years later,  that I started sewing again and learned how to quilt.  I felt like if I was going to be good at fabric designing, I needed to learn how to quilt.  It has been a huge learning curve but I can honestly say my love of sewing has been sparked again and I love quilting.  I get so excited when I design a new collection because I can’t wait to sew and create something cute with it.

Who or what has been your greatest creative inspiration?
I would have to say my kids have been my greatest inspiration.  Watching them play and seeing what they create and like to play with has inspired many of my collections.  When they were little, I used to read a lot of books to them and those stories also inspired some of my collections.  I once took a children’s book writing class and in the first class, the teacher said when getting started the best place to find inspiration is from something personal or the things closest to you.  My love of dolls as a little girl and my children now provide me with the most inspiration of all.

How did you connect with Moda and what does it mean to you to be a Moda designer?
I submitted a collection to Moda but they actually did not accept it the first time around.  They gave me some great feedback and I went back to the drawing board.  Three kids and seven years later I submitted a new collection including the cut and sew concept and it was accepted.  It means so much to me to be a part of the Moda family.  They are the best in the industry and I feel so lucky that they chose me.

Tell us about Woof Woof Meow.  What inspired the designs?
I am so excited about the Woof Woof Meow collection.  I love cats and dogs so it was so much fun to design this collection.  My two cats were used as inspiration for the cat portion of the collection, but for the dog portion of the collection, I was inspired by the dog show I went to in San Francisco with my family.  It was so much fun to see all the breeds of dogs. The hard part was choosing which breeds to feature in the collection.  I fell in love with the “Toy Group” which inspired the “Small but Mighty” print.  I tried to include as many of the dogs as I could, but unfortunately, there were some that did not make the cut.

We are super fans of your panels — can you tell us more about the panels for this particular collection?
I am really excited about these particular panels because I designed them a little differently.  I made them larger so they would be easy to sew for young or new sewers.  Also another wonderful feature about the panels is that I put the dogs and cats on separate panels.  If you are a dog lover you can get the dog panel and if you love cats you can get the cat panel.

Do you have a favorite project or projects made with the collection?
I love all the projects I made with the Woof Woof Meow collection, but if I had to pick my favorite, I have two.  I had so much fun making the I love cat tote.  The colors make me so happy and I just love that little kitty head.  It was my first time making a tote and I just love how it turned out.  I see more toes in my future!

The All Wrapped Up quilt is also one of my favorite projects.  I really love the whimsical take on the beloved dachshund and again the colors are so fun and make me so happy.  Also, it was a super quick and easy quilt to make.

When did you first discover Aurifil threads and what do you love most about them?
I first discovered Aurifil threads at my first market about a year ago.  All my fellow designers raved about it so I had to try it.  I was hooked right away.  I love the way Aurifil sews and the colors are so beautiful.

How did you go about selecting colors for Woof Woof Meow and what excites you most about releasing the colors to the world?
When picking colors for my Aurifil thread collection, I wanted to make sure to include as many of the colors found in the fabric collection as I could.  It was important to have several shades of blues and pinks and I really like the cream and gold as neutrals.  They are so beautiful as a collection but also so versatile if used individually on different projects.  Whether it is piecing low volume fabrics with the creams and golds to adding a pop of color to your quilting with the bright and dark colors, this collection has it all.

  1. I’d make a cat quilt for a cat loving friend. Love, love the cat and mouse notion holder. Adorable. Hope I can find the pattern.

  2. I have 2 goofy cats that I love very much. I think I would make them each a nice cushion and a cute wallhanging for their bathroom (which used to be my bathroom). The fabrics are so cute and colorful. I love them.

  3. These fabrics are adorable! My grandchildren are both animal lovers so I think they need Woof Woof Meow auilts.

  4. I have a friend who has some chowchow puppies and they need little pouches for their papers. So I would make those. And I think my daughter would love to try her hand at the panels.

  5. This is a darling collection, and the colors are so cheerfully bright! Love your dachshund quilt – I have a shitzu and would like to create her in a quilt! My son-in-law is a cat lover and he would love to have a cat quilt! Thank you for sharing, Susan

  6. I would make the dachshund quilt from the woof, woof, meow collection. Looking forward to another panel project.

  7. I like the bag you made from the fabric line, as well as, the determination you showed in persisting to become a fabric designer.

  10. OH my gosh I need this collection! I’d make a quilt for my daughter…then again it might just be for me! 😂

  11. I will make a set of placemats for my animal loving neighbor! We watch her “creatures” whenever she takes a trip and she watches our dog when we’re gone. I know she’d love a sweet set of placemats and maybe a table runner too!

  12. I would love to use this to make a quilt for my niece. She works at a doggie daycare and loves animals!

  13. Both my daughter and granddaughter are avid cat Lovers. Both would enjoy a snuggly throw to snuggle with in the evenings. And of course, they would need matching pillowcases!!! Love this whimsical line!

  14. I really love the sewing kit bag with the mouse! Cute! And the Here Kitty Kitty quilt is adorable, too! Would love to make both.

  15. My granddaughter loves dogs and cats. I’d make her a quilt with this wonderful collection. Thanks for the fun!

  16. Cute fabric collection. I would make a quilt for my animal loving granddaughter. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  17. I adore this line! I will definitely be making one of the cat beds from One Yard Wonders from this adorable line, and I’m sure I’ll be making many more things–zipper pouches, pin cushions, and especially kennel quilts for hurricane areas. The colors in this line are wonderful, along with the darling illustrations.

  18. I just love this collection so much, and am so excited for its release! The colors she chose are so beautiful. <3

  19. I would make many many doggie bandanas!!! The color combination is awesome and perfect for pet wear!! 🙂 I might also get into quilting and do a quilted pillow!!! And the best part, I won’t have to spend anytime trying to find the right thread color, they already did it for me!!! 🙂

  20. I love the fabric. Mostly I make charity quilts so I would make something for the shelter. It would be fun to find a great design to highlight the fabric.

  21. Fabulous fabric collection! I would make a removable cover for my dog’s bed and of course she needs a quilt to match. Then I would make a handbag for myself.

  22. I will definitely make the doggie pillows (LOVED making the barnyard animals for my young nieces) and probably at least one baby quilt.

  23. I would make a series of small quilts for our senior cat. She spends nearly all her time asleep nowadays and has a number of favourite spots around the house. I’d make one for each nap spot!

  24. I’ve always wanted to make a quilt for my veterinarians office. Have never been able to find the right fabric. This collection is perfect!

  25. This is a great collection. My daughter loves her cats, so I’d make something for her, perhaps a lap quilt that could all snuggles under.

  26. I would make a quilt or some other item for my animal loving 9 yr old daughter. I would also share the fabric with her. She loves to see.

  27. Thanks for the game. I could make a pillowcase for my daughter and a gift for one friend who dream to learn patchwork. Thanks for a chance to win 😃 (Sorry for the english, I try to progress !!)

  28. Would love to make a lap quilt!!! Love the fabric and thread colors. Thanks for this wonderful giveaway.

  29. Such an adorable bundle! I’d make a cat wall quilt for my bedroom wall. The colours of the fabrics in the bundle are perfect!

  30. I have collected all of her collections except this last one the cowboys, because money is tight, but I just love the panels and my daughter has helped me sew them all (she is 6) so we would be especially happy to get to play with the dog and cat panels as well.

  31. 2 of my granddaughters adore their kitties – I would deff make pillowcases and totes for them – and prob the Kitty Cat Quilt! This is just adorable fabric

  32. When my son was small he had a toy cat called Sybil who unlike other cats said Woof. In fact Woof, woof , Meow on occasions when Sybil was excited. Thirty years on, Sybil is in a drawer upsatirs and I think I would make a drawstring bag to keep Sybil cosy.

  33. Definitely a baby quilt, the great nieces and nephews all get quilts and I am often behind, plus I am short on boy fabrics in my stash!
