A series of digitally printed designs, All a Twitter manages to capture the beauty of a watercolor while maintaining the precision representative of the digital world. The collection includes one feature print — running yardage of a gorgeous watercolor bird. That print alone is enough to warrant your attention, but the remaining fabrics in the collection are what make it so incredibly unique. THE INTERVIEW
What first drew you to to the world of sewing and quilting?
Without a doubt, the most influential person in my life was my mom. This sweet, gentle lady was very creative when it came to needle and thread. I’m sure I was more of a hindrance than help, but I have fond memories of her and I sewing and crafting as a very young girl.
Who or what has been your greatest creative inspiration?
I think I have two different creative sides. One is using color and fabrics, which led to the beautiful watercolor look in “All a Twitter”. The other side is doing things efficiently and designing quilts that look more complicated then they are. This in turn has led to notion developments by New Leaf Stitches and Creative Grids.
Tell us about All a Twitter. What inspired the designs?
I like to think my design aesthetic has a sassy sophisticated look. The watercolor birds are realistic enough to be sophisticated, while the graphic elements provide the sass. Digital printing adds such depth and detail! Because of the digital process we were able to present a new concept to the quilting market, eight different fat quarters on one bolt! I’m thrilled with how the collection has been received!
Do you have a favorite project or projects made with the collection?
I have two favorite quilts using the collection. I have plans to hang “Nesting” in my living room when it finally comes home. My other favorite is “Dottie”. A totally different look and feel. I think these really showcase the variety within the line itself. And cutting the fat quarter bolt in a certain way, helps with the construction process.
When did you first discover Aurifil threads and what do you love most about them?
I truthfully can’t say when I first started using Aurifil. It’s just been my staple, go-to thread for years. I love the quality of the thread and know it will hold up in my quilts. And the colors! Glorious!
How did you go about selecting colors for All a Twitter and what excites you most about releasing the collection to the world?
I really wanted to provide a variety to the consumer. Of course, there are the rich, bold colors. But there are also neutrals that are so practical. And to mimic the water-color effect in the fabric, I also included a beautiful variegated spool.

I saw All a Twitter in a LQS in Saline, just outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan, last month!!… I fell in love with the colors (!!) and the focus fabric of the beautiful birds!… and just had to buy it!! At the time I had no idea what exactly I’d do with these fabrics… A pretty tote??…. a quilt??… but,…??
I’d been thinking lately, maybe a medallion quilt???…

I’ve been looking for the perfect fabric to make my Mom a quilt and I believe I have found it. The birds are beautiful and the thread line goes wonderfully with it. Absolutely a must have!
This collection really sings to me! The colors and prints are so beautiful! I would pretty up my kitchen with making some pot holders, adding borders and trim to towels and making placemats!

To begin with, I’d use a panel to make a small quilt for some of the pets who are being evacuated in the Northern California wildfires. Something lovely to life the spirits of the people who are doing such hard work, tending to the frightened, possibly injured pets as they wait for their families to find them.

Yes, I am enamoured by the bird fabric. What would I make? I think it would become the backing of a quilt, with the birds fussy cut for the front. Perhaps they would each be in a bird house?
I love this fabric line and the unique way the fat quarters are printed as a group. It would lend itself to quilts…using the birds as a center medallion and the fat quarters to make blocks to go around it.
