Stitch the 2012 DOM Reboot: October

Welcome to Month 10 of our Stitch the 2012 DOM Reboot! If you are just joining us, we’re presenting a brand new version of one of our 2012 blocks on the last Thursday of every month. We’ve been loving the opportunity to work on our hand-stitching, particularly because it’s a fabulous on-the-go activity, particularly while traveling around the holidays (and for International Quilt Market)! Where is your favorite spot to hand-stitch?

Aurifil offers 270 stunning colors of both our 100% Cotton 12wt thread and Aurifloss, our 100% Cotton 6-strand floss. This year-long stitch-along is a wonderful excuse to give some of those colors a try. 😉

These blocks were originally made with Aurifil 12wt. Would you believe that our floss hadn’t yet been introduced in 2012? We love that this reboot gives us the opportunity to try the blocks out with either a new thread, a new color way, or both AND to reconnect with some of our beloved Designers of the Month! So without further pause, let’s check out October’s block!

Amanda Woodward-Jennings of The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery and Hey Pork Chop! created her Boo! It’s October! block in October of 2012. She selected the image for this block because…

“I originally planned a fall embroidery but as I went through the layer cake I saw the black and the orange polka dots and knew I *had* to do something REALLY halloweenie! I absolutely adore Halloween, my wedding anniversary is the day before and I just loooooove it! I knew I wanted to draw some laurel branches and add in some x’s and french knots for texture. Then Ashleigh & I started brainstorming with bats, ghosts, pumpkins, etc. We ended up with this design! It’s really fun and I think it would be super cute on a trick or treat bag or tea towel!”

Amanda used our 12wt in the following colors to complete her block:

• 5016 – Green wreath
• 2975 – Tan french knots
• 1104 – Pumpkin
• 1147 – Pumpkin top
• 1133 – Candy Corn middle
• 2135 – Candy Corn bottom
