Aurifil Artisan Showcase – Floral Inspired

April Showers bring May flowers right? Well… we decided to get a bit of a head start on Spring with our Floral Inspired Aurifil Artisan Showcase. šŸ˜šŸŒŗ We tasked the 2021-2022 Artisan team with creating a project inspired by flowers and floral motifs. The designs they created are gorgeous as always, and have us fully ready to embrace Springtime weather!

Alison Holt | Variations on Aurifil Threads

A freemotion embroidery of a rose and buds on a silk painted base. Using variagated colours part of the range of Aurifil Mako Cotton 40 and 50 weight.

Bhiravi Rathinasabapathi | Hand Stitched Drawstring Pouches

Lavender and chamomile are two of my favorite spring flowers, and beloved medicinal herbs. I wanted to feature both in my floral embroidery project.

I used three strands of Aurifloss in backstitch, lazy daisy stitch, and satin stitch to create tiny floral embroideries. I sewed the finished pieces into tiny drawstring pouches — perfect for holding jewelry or other small items during travel.

Madeline Bonner | #LibertyLoveAroundTheWorldSAL

I am really enjoying this months blocks for the Liberty Love Around The World project. I have chosen some of my favourite botanical prints for this quilt.

Aurifil 80 weight has been a perfect combination with Liberty Tana Lawn.

Elise Baek | EPP Flowers

Flowers, flowers, and more flowers! I never get bored of making EPP flowers and trying to decide on how to embellish them! Big stitch quilting, kantha, embroidery? I just can’t decide so I’ll experiment on these blocks! Aurifloss with one and 12wt on the other, both pieced with 50wt white #2021, my favorite go to thread for piecing.

Lucy Engels | Bouquet & Vase Multi-Skill Project

Bouquet & Vase is a mix of FPP, improv and a dash of needle turn applique. The online workshop from Lucy Engels will be announced soon!

Jen Belnap | Aurifloss Embroidery

What does an Aurifil Artisan do when they are stuck in bed recovering from surgery? Stitch of course! I am nearly finished with this Daisy Chain Sampler. I am sharing some of my favorite letters and my favorite floss!

Sue de Vanny | Floral Placemats

Retro inspired Placemats, have been on the table ( pun intended ) for sometime now.. these are a combination of February & March challenge by adding the funny little free motion flower.

Martha Woollard | Tulip Inspired

Aerial View of Tulip Fields. In the Springtime, tulip fields look like a glorious patchwork of colour when viewed from above. This piece was stitched using 50wt Aurifil thread using a handmade foundation paper piecing pattern.

The next step is to hand quilt along all the rows with a myriad of tulip colours in 12wt kantha stitching.

Lucy Brennan | Sunflower Banner

An embroidered sunflowers peace banner. Stitched using Aurifil 12 weight thread and Aurifloss, with my new favourite simple stitches!

Paula Steel | Dresden EPP Pouch

For me spring is about starting to take my sewing outside, so with that in mind I decided it was time to make a new Aneela Hoey Two in One Case. Using Dresden blades to create flowers I now have a wonderful portable EPP organiser.

Jennie Pickett | Needle Book

A needle book is my new favorite quick finish and I loved framing a sweet bouquet with the Foundation Paper Piecing in my Mini Needle Book free pattern.

Jamie | Needlepoint Quilt

This month was about florals so I had to use my fat quarter of this cutie fabric that had little panels of needle point flowers and such printed on it. I set into my sewing, fussy cutting them all out and stitching them back together framed with pink, white, tan, and brown fabrics.

I’m truly a creature of habit and turned to my trusty spool of off-white Aurifil 50wt thread, which has lasted me like forever now – it’s like the spool version of Mary Poppins’s Bag.
