Slice & Stitch Challenge: Porfiria Gomez

Today, we’re delighted to introduce our OLFA/Aurifil mini Slice & Stitch for 2021! Throughout the month of October, we’ll introduce you to 4 Aurifil Artisans and 5 OLFA Experts who have been challenged to create and share small projects that could be created in an afternoon. They were provided with 1 of 4 OLFA tools in addition to Earth Views, Astronaut Karen Nyberg’s debut thread collection featuring 10 small spools of Aurifil’s 50wt thread. These makers have truly knocked it out of the park and we can’t wait to share their work with all of you!

OLFA: Ergonomic Rotary Cutter w/Pinking Blade, Scallop Blade, & Wave Blade
AURIFIL: Earth Views by Karen Nyberg

Porfiria Gomez and Marcia Izabel Marchiori are our fearless leaders in the kick off of this capsule event. Their projects are stunning and we simply can’t wait to give them a try– perhaps for our holiday gifting this coming season! We’re excited to showcase Porfiria’s project here, and don’t miss more about Amanda’s project over on the OLFA page.

Hello! My name is Porfiria Gomez. I am a native New Yorker and a Brooklyn Quilt Designer. I am so excited to share how to make a mini throw pillow.

I was sent the OLFA Ergonomic Rotary Cutter w/Pinking Blade, Scallop Blade, & Wave Blade and Earth Views by Karen Nyberg, a gorgeous collection of earth tone 50wt threads. Such an honor! As a long-time super fan of OLFA and Aurifil, this project was super easy and so exciting.

The thread colors jumped out at me from the moment I open the box and you’ll see that my color choices for the throw pillow were largely inspired by the hues in the collection. I loved working with the OLFA Ergonomic Rotary Cutter — it was so easy to handle, gliding perfectly to make this project fast and easy!

For this throw pillow, you’ll need:
— OLFA Rotary Cutter
— Aurifil 50wt thread
— Cotton Stuffing
— 5 Fat Quarter (please note you may have extra. I like using fat quarters to start with)

Collect your supplies and head over to my blog for the full tutorial!

Thank you to Aurifil & OLFA for supplying me with these tools.

Head on over to OLFA’s blog to check out Marcia‘s project!
